Need info on removing alternator, 92 Cutlass 3.4

Does anyone have any alternator removal tips. Trying not to disconnect the half shaft according to the Chilton's manual.
Also, what would be a price quess on having a garage do it?

1992 Cutlass SL, 3.4 Liter, automatic.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Re: Need info on removing alternator, 92 Cutlass 3.4

The only choices you have are 1-remove the passenger side tie rod (some people claim to have to get an alignment after this one); 2-drop the rear of the subframe; and 3-remove the axle (which is actually the easiest way - once you remove the hub, the axle just pulls out) - most of the quotes from shops are in the $450.00 price range.

I suggest that you go to www.w-body.com

Look under the FAQ section, theres a procedure to do it by.

or go to www.60DegreeV6.com

You can go to the maintenance section there, method with pics is available to look at.

Good luck. To me, best way is to drop the axle. Did it two times myself that way.
