q's..

ok..im new to cars and espically to tuning, and i have a few questions..i dont understand why people use numbers and letter to describe engine types such as "e85s1" (made up)...and how does everyone else know what the enigne is..considering that there are so many different types of engines..thx for responses

The only real way to find them is to google, I know some codes, but not all....

D16Z- 1600 cc Vtec stock of vti
B16A- 1600 cc Vtec DOHC stock of JDM EF SirII/EG6/EG9
B16B- 1600 cc Vtec DOHC stock of JDM EK9 (Civic Type R)

2JZ-GTE- from the JZA80 Supra, stands for 2nd iteration of the JZ motor, Fuel Injected Turbo Charged.

S54B32- From teh E46 BMW M3, Sport devision, 3.2 liter...dont remeber the 54 part.

A few Nissan Codes (which do make since)

The first two Letters are just the series of engine
The second letters are for litters of displacement
D= Dual Overhead Cam
E= Multi-Port Fuel Injection
T= Turbo
TT= Twin Turbo
V= Nissans Variable Valve Lift (similiar to Vtec)

The T just signifies that an aftermarket turbo was installed on the KA24DE or KA24E. KA24's never came turboed from the factory.

As far as mitsu codes go, there aren't actually any official Mits codes with t's in them, really.

The turbo 4g63 is still just a 4g63, the same as the non-turbo.

I believe this is also true of the 6g72. People add the t for clarification because the motors are internally different (CR, oil squirters, etc) but it is not actually part of the motor's official engine code.


On a note about the nissan codes, I was under the impression that the later Silvias (S15s, I think, but maybe it was S14s too) had variable valve timing, does the SR20VET come in those, or did nissan stick with the SR20det code for some reason?
