need major help

i have 1992 lumina 4DR 3.1L. teh problem is whe ni drive it for awhile and say i if i were ot florr it or wat not not even floor it but if that happeneds, and it goes ot down shift it doesnt seem ot want too and there for just starts to bog out and wants ot die so i have to throw it and neautral or pray taht teh light is green, and when it does stall out it wont cut on unlessi have it in neutral and tehn i have ot gas it and throw it in drive and it still seems like it is in that high gear. i get a lot of smoke from undert he hood but taht is becuzi ahve a valve cover gasket leak. i checked and filledthe tranny but it still does it. it stopped and n it actin up again. wat do i do?

From what you describe it sounds as though your torque converter clutch is not releasing as you decelerate. A quick test is to unplug your vacuum tcc modulator. It is just below the airbox, kind of like a bell shape, sticking out the front of your transmission. unplug the wiring harness and see if your car still stalls when you come to a stop. If it does not stall, you will be visiting a tranny shop soon.

You could drive with the tcc modulator unplugged, but you will get horrible gas mileage and it is not good for your transmission.
