Brand Loyalty?
This post is a little bit of a rant, but also a question for some people. Tonight I'm crusing home from Providence and i notice a clean looking 94-98 Mustang GT vert passing me in the left lane slowly. I let him get ahead but then i decide to try and race him. So i pull up to the side of him, wait for him to make a move and... nothing. So i give the teg a little rev(5-6k) and... nothing. I'm like well i guess he doesnt want to race so i floor it and take off just to let him know i wasnt stock (even though that model mustang would have been a perfectly good race stock). Later on I'm just cruising and all of a sudden a 99-04 red GT, followed by the black vert, go by me doing 90. So i hop in behind them to see if anything is going to happen and... they continue to do 90. This black Mustang was a 94-98 GT convertible, for all i know it was auto, any integra would have been a good race for his slow ass. I have a very clean GSR all stock exterior exept for my SP2, which is not raspy at all. This dude wouldnt bite. But as soon as he gets passed by the red Stang GT, he tails it. Even though the red GT would have wiped the floor with this guy. What was with this dude?

I don't think it is a brand loyalty thing as much as a lot of V8 muscle heads think they are superior to guys who drive a car with anything less than eight cylinders. To race you would have been beneath him. I know a few guys like this and I would love to hand them a slice of humble pie.
At least that is my theory. |

^Yes. Don't worry about it man. I usually do the same thing you do. Or I will get right next to them, put my right fender(thats where my Type S is) right by thier window, floor it, make 10psi, and blow off loud as shit. That usually pisses them off enough to race.haha
Even more fun are the stoplights where I can hit second really hard and get the ass end all crazy.haha Either way, I know what you mean. thumbs up for trying to get a race!

Re: Brand Loyalty?
... I had a similar experiance happen to me.
A guy in a Kitted (non painted) early 90s GSR came up to me the freeway and started honking off. I put the Z28 into 4th and mashed it on the 3rd honk with him. Although, I pulled him like taffy. I'm down for a race... whatever it may be. Wait... my story doesn't with yours Zack... Sorry. I guess I'm a nicer guy than that particular Mustang duder.

I figured the people on this board would be alot cooler than this dude. I'm the same way as you guys. The only time i won't race is if i see a ricer driving like a maniac just to catch up to me, i'm not down with supid asses going high speeds near me and/or others. The thing that bothers me the most is, it was below me to race this dude. and just because he had 8 cylinders he had to act all big and mighty, I've seen those GT's get on it... its nothing special at all. Oh well, thanks for the replys guys, this post was just a rant...

It wasn't a matter of brand loyalty. It was him not wanting to waste his gas on another import (by his way of thinking, NOT what I am saying) that he probably thought would be slow.
I know from personal experience that when I am out driving my Nova, anyone and everyone will rev up trying to get me to race.. not because they think they can win or had any intention of racing at all. They just want to see what the car can do and exactly how fast it is. It borders on the point of stupidity it happens so much. When I drove the car daily, this would happen more than a few times a day. May have been what he was thinking, just throwing thoughts out there. Rob

Don't worry about it, he was probably just a strait up import hatin' V8 guy(you know, an moron). I kinda used to be like that back in the day, before I was more of a car enthusiast. That could also be attributed to the dickhead kids that drove slow, riced out imports in my highschool though. Anyhow, I've learned to appreciate any moddable car, V8 or not and I'm down for a race if someone wants to have a go.

Re: Brand Loyalty?
something similar happened to me too. i was trying to get a guy in a mustang to race me light to light but he wouldn't bite. then he catches a light with a trans am and i was a couple of cars behind them in traffic, and the two end up racing.

I don't think it has anything to do with brand loyalty. It might have for those guys. Either that, they were afraid they might get beat. I wouldn't have raced you at night. Just one of my rules. If I can't see, no runs. I have done some late night deserted road street racing....I don't care for going 100 MPH and having something run out in front of you. Even just a rabbit would fuck you at those speeds. I stick to racing when I can see.

Re: Brand Loyalty?
What do you predict your trap speeds to be? I know they have to be up there. And a trap speed will give you more of an indicator of the cars potential on a highway run.
