mitsubishi galant es check engine light??

hello guys, i just got this car and i bought it with the check engine light on. can anyone tell me how to read out the DTC code on the ecu so i can figure out what's the problem with my car, beside the tranny no shifthing into 3rd gear auto????

the car its a 1994 galant Es and no, i don't have a code list.

you may be able to check it with a volt meter but without a list the numbers would mean nothing. have you tryed removed the negative for a couple of minuites to blank the memory. it may be storing a previos problem.

can you please tell me exactly how to do this on my car. thanx

put a test lamp beyween the first pin (top left one i thinck) and a good earth point on the body then switch on the ignition the long flashes = units of ten short ones units of 1. e.g. 2 long and three short = code 23

I have never heard of a ground referred to as an "earth point" before. I'll have to remember that one, I like it.)

i finally got the codes out and i'm getting this codes

code 43 EGR fault
code 59 Rear Oxygen (O2) sesnor fault

can anyone help me how to fix this code 43, since i know the 59 it just to replaced the 02 sensor

the egr is an exhaust gas recirculation valve

Could be a malfunctioning EGR valve (over time carbon builds up which causes the valve to stick, some newer EGR have internal solenoids that go bad), Some vehicles also have seperate EGR vacuum solenoids, and/or EGR position sensors any of which could cause such a problem..

Your car may just have the EGR valve, I don't know...
