Why are most of the American imported Firebirds in Australia automatic?

Yesterday, I was looking at a few Firebirds in www.carsales.com.au. Some were 2.8L V6 and some were 5.7L V8. But nevertheless, there were all automatic. Can you guys plz tell me why? Is the transmission changable through Holden (A GMC Brand in Aus)?

Most firebirds everywhere were auto. There were like 3-4 auto's for every stick.

Geez...I thought it was some kind of fancy performance car. Auto fully mucked it up.

4th Gen Electronic Auto's or 4L60-E's are some of the auto's on the market. They lose less than traditional AUto's do and go right up to redline before shifting which leaves you directly in your power band and shift extremely fast for a factory transmission and with the aid of a shift kit is even faster. They run the 1/4 faster than the Manual counterpart so its not such a bad thing, Although I do love stick.
