Hello
My A/C system on my 1994 Grand Am GT is not working. The clutch does not engage. Also the cooling fan does not come on. I checked the system charge and it has full charge. Would like to know where to look next???????????? Thanks Raul |

Re: 94 Grand Am GT A/C not working????????????
Well most likely its a electrical problem. I would check the fuse first. The move on to the relays. Then the compressor. Good Luck.

Re: 94 Grand Am GT A/C not working????????????
Bump.
I am having the same problem with my 95 Grand AM GT 3.1. The compressor clutch does not engage, and the Fan does not turn on. I will go over the fuses, wiring and psi check. But if that's not it, what else is there to look for? Is there a switch or sensor that's known to go bad? |

Check the wire going to the high pressure sensor, its on the line that comes out of the condenser and goes to the compressor, make sure its plugged in. Also, is the compressor clutch plugged in? Like Formula said, check the fuses and relays, its got to be electrical.

Re: 94 Grand Am GT A/C not working????????????
The compressor turns over nice and smooth by hand. The 25amp fuse in the fuse box located in the dash by the driver door is good. The hot side (by the red cap) sensor is plugged in, and wires look good. Also the compressor seem's to be plugged in to.
Next I'm gonna get a psi reading on the cold side. Thank you for your help skibum111, I've read a few of your older post's and got some good info on the Grand am A/C system. |

You should have around 65 psi on the cold side with the compressor off, and when it kicks in it should be around 30-35 psi.

Re: 94 Grand Am GT A/C not working????????????
OK man, here's what I have.
26psi with compressor on. 55-58psi with the engine off. I tried to add refrigerent, but it just does'nt seem to want to take any more. It could just be the cheap plastic wal-mart refill fittings. I had to manually jump the compressor relay, (Chiltons does'nt have crap for trouble shooting the A/C) when I did do that, it would engage, and sounded healty. I felt both pipes for the condensor going to the dash, both were warm after having the compressor run for a few minuets. Where is the exspansion valve? I also moved the temp dial back and forth to make sure the flapper between the heater core and A/C was switching, I could feel it go from out side temp, to hot so I know that all working. Help Please! |
