Insurance

A lot of people here seem to have cars with a blue book under $5k. Some people have mods including turbos and suspension mods that cost as much as their cars. How do you insure such a vehicle? Assuming you have full coverage, if your car is totaled would you get what it is actually worth, or what blue book value for a stock car would be? Is it easy to get agreed value insurance on a daily driver? (I have only heard of having agreed value with classic cars)

Thanks for any answers.

you have to document the modifications on your car before you pay them. Have reciepts of monetary value for them, pictures, let the insurance personnel inspect the car and take their own pictures as well. If you add something later on and want that insured you will have to take it back down and document that as well and pay a higher premium.

basically insuring everything else on the car is just going to raise your insurance bill.

Re: Insurance

If they don't know your car is modified and has twice the power it is supposed to have, would they still give you the blue book on the car if it is totaled, or would you be screwed?

Re: Insurance

Someone around here had an ITR with about 15 grand in suspension, engine and audio mods, it was stolen, but he haden't told the insurance company about the mods, he got back what the car was worth, not a penny more. They found the car stripped down, btw.

Re: Insurance

well if you total it out, y would you let them take the car??? you simply strip all the parts off it that are still good and then reapply them to your next vehicle. I mean its not that difficult. Just because they say your car is totalled doesnt mean its done for. Anything can total these cars. I got hit in the rear end and wrinkled the floor board a bit. Car was TOTALED. Still runs great though, it actually just looks like my bumper is sagging, just a small gap from bumper to taillight clearance. I still drive it around wrecked. Bought it back for 400 bux and pocketed 1600. Now if its not drivable, doesnt mean all the parts that you put on it are screwed too. It really depends on the severity of the wreck to be honest. But i wouldnt worry about it. If your to scared to drive it, then maybe you shouldnt have it as a daily driver if your worried about it that much. Thats my plan. Use my current totalled 240 as the daily drive, then soooop up my coupe for the weekend/cruise nights. All i know is i have 2 240's with liability on them and i only pay 145 a month. Life is good. lol

insurance people consider a car totalled when to properly fix it would cost more then the blue book value, just so they get off the cheapest way possible
