Spark plugs should be replace every 30,000 miles. If it already has 40,000 miles on it you might want to have all of them replace to be on the safe side if you haven't had any replace yet.

Re: HOw many miles should I go before replacing all my sparkplugs??
would a 99 lesabre have platinum plugs? they're good for 50K +++ miles (they claim 100K, IIRC)
I would say if you replace one, replace them all. Check your newspaper/shopper ads for a tuneup special or call around to some local shops and ask how much a tuneup is. $60-$80 seems more realistic, and if you do it yourself it can be done for half that. know any shadetree mechanics? spark plugs are easy if you're even slightly mechanically inclined |

Whatever the outcome,be sure to replace the plug or plugs with oem plugs that were in the car from the factory (very important with GM engines).and $35 seems high for one plug.

Re: HOw many miles should I go before replacing all my sparkplugs??
$35 for one plug?! Let's see, thats 6 plugs, plus $20 for wires...$230 in parts alone. Then you have to add labor, the cut the mechanic recieved trying to get the back plugs off, the burn his assistand recieved trying to hold the motor steady by gripping the exhaust pipes, cleanup for the oil that "started leaking" out the oil pan plug, new oil for the car, new mop to clean the oil mess up, Diagnostic for the new "sputter" the motor "just started" making, excessive repair to the fuel rail that is causing the "sputter", and you can have your car back in 35 minutes, along with the discounted bill for $1300.
-OR- Do it myself for ~$45, and have the car running great in 15 minutes. The increase in gas mileage along will pay for the repairs over a period of one month, and I won't have to do it again for an entire year. Need I say more?

Re: HOw many miles should I go before replacing all my sparkplugs??
If you end up doing it yourself, or have a mechanically inclined friend do it, make sure you apply anti-seize to the threads of each plug before installing it. It makes it a lot easier to remove the plug when the time comes to get them out. You can get it at any auto parts store usually under $5, Permatex is one brand and there are others.

I would imagine that you won't have a problem with them for a while, but they may start acting up at some point before they are supposed to.
