tips on launching a 98 Z28 M6

would anyone like to describe their launch procedure? i went to the track, albeit for the first time, and my 60' times were in the 2.6-2.7 range. i just can't seem to hook up, i spin through the majority of first gear. any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Re: tips on launching a 98 Z28 M6

Damn. Don't get anxious. That appears to be your enemy.

I was in the 2.5 60' range my first time out. Now, on street tires, I get 2.2's. Takes practice.

Are you trying to warm up street tires?? If you are, don't. Just chirp them once to clean them off. I was launching from about 2,800 RPM's, and trying to drag the clutch out a little bit, just dumping would get a ton of spinning.

Hope that helps some, good luck!

Re: tips on launching a 98 Z28 M6

I asked a buddy of mine who has an M6 and this is what he said...

"The RPM really depends on how much the rear end can handle. But being there is a traction problem, the lower the better. Before I had the drag radials, I would launch at 2500, roll it off the line and then nail it. The tires would still spin but would recover fairly quickly though. With the drag radials, I have launched at 4500 and with the new cam and 12-bolt, I will be launching at 5000."

sounds like too many ponies for youre tire sellection...do you warm youre tires up first or start cold? if so heat them up a bit besides rubber smells good and see if they stick better when hot..

Street tires perform worse when heated. Slicks and DR's are better warm.

you just gotta find that sweet spot in your clutch that has the perfect balance to get you completely off of the clutch-fast-without spinning the tires. if you have piece of shit tires then you just have to compensate with less throttle, but its all about the footwork.
