Abs

Recently my ABS and Trac lights have taken to comming on when I am driving in slushy or snowy conditions. The bearings on my wheels are fin i had them checked by my mechanic recently when I had new breaks put on. Even with the ABS light on they are both working. Im wonding though if the problem lies with the tire?? I know I need a new one it keeps losing pressure. Im wondering if putting a new tire would fix this problem or if it could be something else?

Re: Abs

It's always a good idea to have good tires, but I can't see the tires having anything to do with the ABS. If they were low, you'd get a low tire light.

Re: Abs

There should be a wheel speed sensor on each wheel for th ABS. I believe that when your abs light comes on, this means your anti lock brake system has been bypassed and you are now using just regular brakes.

Perhaps the slushy snow is interfering with the abs sensors ???

Re: Abs

Chaz,
Good point. Living in Florida, I don't think about the snow.

Re: Abs

Old thread but no answer. For me, and my 94 APV 3.1, the same problem was solved with a new alternator. Hasn't reoccured for a really long time!
