fan still runs for a few when car is cut off....

Im sorry guys for all of the questions,but i AM HAVING MANY PROBS WITH THIS CAR and you will probaly be hearing much from me in coming weeks..Here is another prob..When I cut off the car there is still some type of fan running[you can hear it humming] ,and it does this for a few minutes,What could that be?[again,I have a 93' Grand Am SE 4 cyl]..Thanks and I appreciate your help guys----Frank_A

There are only two fans in your car, either the heater fan or the engine cooling fan. If it is the engine cooling fan this can be normal as the fan is designed to stay on until the temperature reaches a level. If it is the heater fan then you will need to find out why it is running. Could be short or the resistor could be going bad. Next time you hear it, raise the hood. If the engine fan is on and it goes off shortly then don't worry about it. Although you might want to insure that your coolant level is proper. If it is the heater fan, try shutting off the heater system before turning off the key. If it still runs the resistor will probably need replacing or possibly the ignition switch.
