Discontinued the S-10. WAH!!!

They have discontinued the Chevy S-10 and the GMC Sonoma. The replacement vehicle is the Colorado and the Canyon. Since this forum hasn't started a forum for the Colorado I figured I'ld post my experiences here in the board for the vewhicle it is replacing.

My brand new (picked it up Saturday) Chevy Colorado has a vibration problem. Felt like either bad front end problem or out of balance wheels. I dropped it off at the dealership this morning.

They are claiming that the tires themselves are out of round. These of course are the more expensive optional chrome rims with different tires.

They are ordering in new tires for me, but I'll have to live with it until Thursday when they will be able to replace three of the tires. The fourth will get here in a couple weeks. Gah! I guess I get to go bouncy, bouncy, bouncy, for a while.

Get this. Not only are the tires not round, but the service guy backed my truck into a Corvette in the yard bringing it out to me when I stopped by to pick up my truck. LOL. He said the new bumper should be in the same day as my new tires. I feel for the guy. He was saying through his teeth to the customer before me that everything was fine and there was no problem. No clue what was going on, but you could tell he wasn't happy.

Sounds like this shop is not a good one.

Feel for the poor corvette driver too.

Bitch and moan at this and get some free perks!

You know. I had already concluded that it was not a wonderful shop with my past vehicles. This is the local Chevy dealer. I usually take my trucks over to the service department at the local GMC dealer and get great service. I thought I'ld give them a chance since I had just picked the truck up a coupel days before. Oh, well. After this gets taken care of I guess I'll go back to taking any warranty items over to the GMC shop again.

Kind of amazes me. GM has million dollar road force wheel assembly/balance and they let this stuff out the doors. Shouldn't happen. Hope they get your truck fixed up.

Thanks. Yeah I think it will get fixed. On a less wonderful note I took one of my other trucks over to the local GMC dealer today, and got told that GM is putting pressure on them to stop cross line warranty support. I may have to break down and buy Dodges in the future. LOL!

Question about bouncing

I too just purchased a GMC Canyon (sister of the Colorado that you purchased) and it feels to me like there is some vibration present as well. How did they determine the tires were out of round, just a speed balance check or something? I am taking mine in to have it checked as well - I don't want to over-react, maybe the off-road suspension makes everything bumpy - but it feels like there is more bounce when traveling at a constant 45-50 MPH than there should be on a flat smooth road. Do you also have the off-road suspension in your truck?

Re: Discontinued the S-10. WAH!!!

I test drove the colorado sport crew cab, I too am impressed with the looks, however my s-10 is way smother. the colorado felt weird on the highway, it felt like there was a head wind at every little bump. The 5 cylnder engine was a major improvment over my 2.2 but then again I can always get a turbo. maybe I'll wait till they work out the bugs on the colorado.

Re: Discontinued the S-10. WAH!!!

The new I5 does have more horsepower, but it can't replace the torque of a strong V6.

That will be missed.

Re: Discontinued the S-10. WAH!!!

Hmmm... Interesting. I had not thought about torque figures. I still have my S-10 and I swear it feels like its got tons more useable power even though the V-6 is only rated at 195 HP and the I5 in my Colorado is rated at 235. I use the S-10 as a work truck with a steel work top, ladders, tools, etc. loaded in it. I actually had to add leaf springs to make it ride right I have it so loaded down, but even with all that load it has a more powerful "feel."
