Question Replace front axle boot 96' GC Laredo

Can anyone tell me if how "Basically" to change a front passenger side axle Boot? Do I need to pull the axle or just the hub assembly? HELP

you need to take the axle shaft out.take the hub off(easier said than done, since they are usually stuck in the knuckle)the axle just slides out of the differential.

I've found that if the boot needs replacing, the CV joint is usually bad as well.

The time and effort to dissassemble the CV joint, clean it up and keep all the parts lined up with the original positions is not worth it to me. Besides, if you replace it with a rebuilt, you at least get a hint of warrenty on the parts.

i second that notion. and... you're already in there and CV's aren't very expensive.

A matter of Time & Money.

Boots are $25 for L&R with new grease and CV half axles are $80.
AutoZone gave 'Lifetime' on my Old's half axles.

Since the Jeep GCL only has outer CV's and the axle shaft goes into the differential, I did not give it a second thought and just replaced the boot.

I consider boot replacement an easy job. Others might be overwhelmed.
Once the brakes are removed then remove the bearing housing and there is a big hole in the strut which the CV assembly can be pulled through. No alignment is necessary upon reassembly.

Thanks a lot guys, I guess I'll see what kind of a deal on the half shaft assembly I can get and go from there. I guess peice of mind of knowing its all new would be nice, especially if its a job getting there.
