Re: automatic drifting
possible, but stick is better. you just dont have as much "control" of rpms if that makes sense. Just deal with the light to light action...atleast you'll have one huge calf muscle, to go along with that ONE huge forearm muscle(if you know what i mean)...lol. It just depends on what you want more, a comfortable car to drive in traffic or some fun drift times....i know what i would choose.

Re: automatic drifting
Well, it would be sortof hard i imagine. I use the clutch....alot. Especially sidestepping and letting the LSD take over. Things like that help tremendously. So if you really wanna do it and be good and serious about it....stick with the stick.

Re: automatic drifting
no control over the rps w/ a auto it is possible to start the drift but it would be hard to maintain a good drift or drift back to back curves. go w/ manual if u want to have fun and get good at drifting. if u stick w/ auto u will never be able to build your skill level basically ur auto will hold u back tremendously

Re: automatic drifting
After driving stick for a while, it will become natural to you. Like walking almost, you don't think about which foot to move first right? I'd say stick with the stick.

Re: automatic drifting

welp you could have a good transmission shop make your valvebody manually operated, this means it only shifts when you move the shifter from D 3-2-etc.....this goes for downshifting too.
still won't have a clutch to use, but you can defintely count on it to stay in the gear you choose until you tell it not to. |

Re: automatic drifting
I drift... I have AT... no prob! But like the boys said: Your not gonna be competing with NOB in D1 or anything. I'm not sure what vol.... but OPTION Video had a SILVIA S13 AT Drift machine and this mo'fo' was connecting drifts like crazy. It can be done...

Re: automatic drifting
i thought drifiting only should be done w/manual b/c you get ultimate control of the car, but then i saw hot version vol 62 (i think) and tsuchiya keiichi was drifting a automatic GT3240 turboed z33. but then again, he's doriking and the car had like 500 ponies....
but just as peeps said, you'll get used to manual and it becomes 2nd nature. I learned in sf where i was either stalling or backing into everyone on hills. |

Re: automatic drifting
you can definetly drift and auto. I have a 1989 240 *cough*volvo dl*cough* and I drift it. I just have to pitch the car into turns a little harder than my friend. Also, my lack of LSD limits me to smooth left hand drifts, and crazy fast almost spinning right hand drifts. Its possible, just develop your skills till you can get a stick. Remember, theres other kinds of drifts aside from clutch kick and power-sliding.
