If you mean you are off by 3 teeth on the crank in the timing but cyl 2 and 5 are dead on, then you may have a problem. You should have had them all at TDC, on the cyl #1 before the belt came off, then try and keep the cams from jumping to much while you replace the belt. then everything should be fine when it goes back together. MAKE SURE TO TURN THE ENGINE OVER BY HAND FIRST BEFORE STARTING!!!

This is to make sure there is no valves hitting the top of the piston because something got out of time. Much rather tap a valve into a piston cranking it over by hand, than have that valve hit the piston at 800RPM at idle, or worse yet at 4k RPM.

Re: timing belt

tidler was locked up, crank was 3 teeth off when I got the car. fixed belt and all tensioneers and found 2 cyl dead when cranked it up. compression is 110 on affected cyl, 130 on good ones

Re: timing belt

so you are saying your timing belt slipped? i hope your timing belt didn't slip. if it did, something big most likely happened like bent valves or something like that.

Re: timing belt

I was given car at the shop to fix. It was in boxes, motor on the floor. pulled timing covers and found locked up idler, crank off 3-4 teeth but cams in line. installed motor, found cyl 2 and 5 dead-go figure. did compression ck, 115-130-140-135-130-140. cyls have fire, fuel, comp??? and timing.
did the valves kiss pistions?? vacuum is 12in and fluxuates 1-2 inches rapidily like valve trouble. car has protec boost control, underdrive pully, and possible computer mods with new wiring harness

Well that sounds like the basic stage 3 upgrade package, which is usually where alot of idiots think they have the power run whatever boost they feel like and end up fragging their engine.

Anyway, it does sound like a pair of valves or more got hit and aren't seating straight anymore. If thats not the case then the problem may be in the wiring harness, thats a lot **** to reconnect, chances are something went wrong somewhere. Really, I would have to be there to give you anymore than that.
