Unhappy installing an amp and woofers

i just bought a new car (97 accord coupe) and am putting my head unit and subz from my old car into this one. i bought my subz at circuit city and they said if i bring in the old car and the new one they would put them in for me for free. my dad wants to put them in on our own. but i don't have the slightest clue on how to put them in, i can install almost anything on my car, but for some reason my gut says that i can't do the subz. Any suggestions? i'm also wondering about capacitors. would it be a good idea to go with one? or should i just go the an audio shop and talk to a specialist there, i'm also considering upgrading my amp. thanks for the help.

Re: installing an amp and woofers

It shouldn't be too bad, one of my friends went to an aftermarket car store and they charged him $180 for installation on a 10" sub, 250W amp, and a new H/u. If you don't wanna waste money on them installing your stuff, do some research and do it yourself, that's what I plan on doing once I get money for the system I'm gonna make.

Do it yourself and save $. Buy a friend some beer to help you out. (give it to him after though) Im sure you know someone that knows how to do it and can guide you. It wouldnt hurt to get a capacitor. If you plan on getting a bigger amp its a good idea

Re: installing an amp and woofers

o ya by the way i installed 1 sub, amp, 2 midranges, and a headunit in a boat from scratch(there was no radio there before so i had to cut holes for speakers make room for h/u etc.) in a boat in about four hours but most of the time was finding where to put them and cuttin all you have to do is hook up wires pretty much im not sure how to give it power though i just hooked my system directly to the battery in the boat..

Re: installing an amp and woofers

a capacitor, also known as a cap, holds some power for the amp when you really need it. it helps the amp by not draining the battery when it hits really hard. it helps your headlights from dimming.

make sure when you run the wires off the battery(for the amp) that you go through the firewall, this way you keep your wires protected, also make sure that you seal the hole around the wires in the firewall, the alternative would be through the A-frame around the door, but i was told by my neighbor who works at a body shop that this is a very bad idea

Re: installing an amp and woofers

If they'll do it for free, just let them do it. Save time, work, and probably some frustration.
