94 pickup 22RE pcv valve removal??
I tried to get the pcv valve out for replacement and could not. I am not exactly inexperienced with mechanical work so dont think that way. I was amzed and wondered if there was something with this motor that is diffeent? Later I wanted to replace the valve cover gasket and thought that might give me chance to get the pcv out. could not. I lube it, pushed, pulled, turned, stared at it, talked to it, repeated the whole process. Anybody have some help or thoughts or similar situation on this. seems odd to me.

The PCV is on the rear half of the valve cover. For valve cover removal use a pair of pliers to turn off the rubber bushing/seal that fit over the studs that you removed the cap nuts from

use a pair of pliers on the rubber grommets, and then a rubber mallet will get the "seal" to break on the VCG. These things heat up and stick *very* tight to the sealing surfaces.

thanks for the help. I started to use pliers but I backed off because I would feel stupid if just tore it up.

If you buy a felpro valve cover gasket, the one is a kit that includes new grommets

i used pliers and i had to use a ton of force i even got cut on a knuckle pretty bad but i got it, the thing was really super frozen into the grommet bad, you just have to be harsh with it, totally, kill it, new one is 1.99 at autozone i think was pcv212 part number, this was the other day, the new oens are metal also identical to the originals, mine was still original with 126K miles on it, truck doesnt idle any better though.
good luck

I finally got the D*** thing out resterday... What a pain.
I put a pair of small vice grips on the stem and took a slife hammer puller and gripped the vice grips and 20 hard pulls later the thing popped out. Got a PCV valve at autozone, and altready bought a full enigine Fel-pro gasket kit since we are rebuilding BUT 2 gaskets not in the kit are. *Thermostat gasket and *PCV Bushing. HOW NICE! Anyway the PCV valves do come out but with a lot of effort {And cussing and swearing the whole time}! Thanks Again |
