Unhappy 99 explorer wont stay on!

Hello all!! Need help with my 99 Ford Explorer Sport! When I turn the key it starts up but wont stay on unless you have your foot planted on the gas! replaced fuel filter. garage said they fixed it? had problem again, 2 days after they 'fixed' it. Any suggestions?

Re: 99 explorer wont stay on!

I have a 97 Mountaineer (V8, 5.0) that had a similar problem. I have had to replace the Idle Air Control Valve twice in the 5 years I've owned it. It would barely idle when cold, but did okay once it was warmed up. Hope this helps.

Hey Thanks for replying! I actually gave up on it today and took it to the Ford dealer (which I never do) this morning and that is exactly what they said it was...Of course it cost me around 300 to get that answer but i was deperate. But again, I really thank you for your reply. Its good to know there are helpful people like you out there! Kelly

Sorry I was too late to save you some money. As I recall, the part was about $40 at Autozone (I'm not trying to make you feel bad.) It's a very simple replacement for anyone to do. Maybe this will help the next person with similar problems.

I am having the exact same problem with my 2000 Explorer. I also got desperate and called the Ford dealership today. He suggested an Idle Air Control Valve. I held off on making an appointment and found this website! I am going to try this and hope it works!
