Digital EGR Solenoid Failure

I have a 1995 Firbird V6 3.4eng.

The code shows EGR #1 Solenoid Failure

When I get on the freeway, up to 65, the light won't come on, once I slow down to about 55, the light comes on.

I thought the EGR Valve was bad so I bought a new one $200.00

I cleared the codes and the same thing happens.

I'm just wondering if anyone knows if some other sensor could cause this to happen, or if there could be a short in a wire.

Re: Digital EGR Solenoid Failure

could be a short in the wiring, or could be carbon build up. i deal with this on a regular basis with those EGR valves (im a chevy tech) carbon build up breaks loose in chunks, and can hold the valve open, or in your case closed. so even if you swapped valves, more carbon might have clogged up the new one. take it off, see if there is carbon chunks in there, if so, leave it off the car, start it up, and rev it a few times to blow any other chunks out of the piping, and install a egr gasket with a screen on it. if there isnt any carbon, then its either a wiring problem, or a PCM fault of some sort. alhough if the PCM was bad id think youd have quite a few other problems as well.
