I'm curious as to whether the picks on the first link are actually at a French Airport, and if so, why? And does anyone know the Chassis number ?

It has to be a very early F1, as it has the early style mirrors taken from the Citroen CX (and various other cars) as opposed to the VW Corrado mirrors. Other than that, I don't think there's any way of confirming the number. Now that we know its still around, I guess it could even be XP3 but that's purely specualtion.

As for the location on the photos, the rest seem to be from the same area based on captions, so I can't imagine why these wouldn't be. In the one shot you can see an SLK in the background, so maybe there was some type of automotive display running in the airport terminal.

Well, the pic's label says Nice Airport. I don't see any evidence of an aviation museum. Why would a car be in an aviation museum? You can clearly see duty free shops and a product display cabinet (with a logo on the glass and spotlamps inside) in the background, and even some luggage (presumably the photographer's). You can also see a typical sweater display and a poster through the car's left window, and a TAG Hueur watch logo to the right, identical to the ones uses in watch stores. There are aslo lots of "retail-type" posters visible.

It would also make sense to display this car by a TAG Hueur watch store if it was at an airport, just like Ferrari cars are displayed by Gerrard Perregaux retailers and airplanes and hot air balloons are displayed by Breitling watch retailers.

So why the speculation about an aviation museum? Where do you come up with that from?

As for why it's there, obviously it's to raise awareness and attract a buyer. Lots of wealthy people use Nice airport to get to Monaco, or for getting to the French Riviera. It's an excellent place to promote such a product.

I have a possible solution for why it was at the airport. When I was in Europe over the summer I was at an airport where they have some contest where you can win exotic cars. You would see like an Aston DB7 or Ferrari 360 sitting there. There are only a certain amount of tickets so you have a bigger chance of winning, but they cost the equivalent of about $75-$100 a piece. Seems kind of far fetched that they would have a million dollar superexotic there though.

Actually, maybe a bit more likely is that this is chassis #001, McLarens own car, and it was just there for some publicity at a highly populated airport.

they raffle off exotic cars at london heathrow (dunno about gatwick). I'll look for the website. Most are 1000 ticket limited and about 100-250 pounds per ticket.
