My starter went out on my 85 Cherokee 2.5l 4 cyl. It looks like the starter is held on with two bolts that go up through the starter. They do not have a square head like a normal bolt, the bolt heads look a little like what a star socket would fit. However, I could not get a star socket to hold on them, I tried all different kind of sockets and could not get anything to fit. Does anyone know what fits these bolts? Thanks

starter bolts on 85 Cherokee
You will need to get a set or at least one E-socket I think it's e-13 for this . Sears should have these but you could try a Real auto parts store, not a chain store, but a real store like NAPA or such. Explain what you need and they should be able to help you. i still have my set I bought
to replace my Motorcraft starter on my 85 Jeep. You may have a Bosch starter on yours, but the bolts are the same though. they are all the same to my knowledge the last starter I did was on a 89 Cherokee that the Nippondenso starter and the same bolts were used. Remember to clean the area first with brake clean(evaporates fast and cleans good) as these leak badly in this area and from the valve covers too as you know if you own one.If you have the external fender mounted solenoid replace it now too, it doesn't cost much and cant hurt! |
