Unhappy My Trunk

I have the touring model with the spoiler on it and it seems to not want to open when i press the trunk release button. but when it is opened it doesn't fall. Are the shocks shot or is the trunk just that heavy?

My guess is that the remote trunk release is just that... a release for the lock mechanism. To my knowledge, the shocks are not designed to actually lift the lid to the fully opened posistion...only support it when it's up. At least this seems to be the case, with any car having hydraulic trunk supports that I have owned...this being only the second, (both with spoilers) and the other being a different make hatchback model. The spoilers do add a lot of weight tho...maybe the lids without one open on their own? I think some makes and models just work better opening the lid higher, due to design of the lid... ie flat, as on a full size type car, opposed to one with a lip that overhangs and adds extra weight at the edge furthest from the strut. Some heavier types just need a little manual assistance before the weight and the strut create a balance enough to raise on its own. Maybe heavier (or actually lighter) duty struts would be the only answer...so the lid would have less resistance and open more freely...but, then it might not stay up!

When I pop the trunk with the release button, it doesn't open all the way, rather just slightly and the rest I have to open manually. It is a heavy trunk .

On the t that I know, that trunk is so heavy, when you hit the button, the trunk doesn't even pop up a little, but it still releases.

Mine doesn't open at all either. Which is why I am worried. The latch releases the trunk, cause the light comes on, but the trunk doesn't open.

On my 93.5 I had to replace the trunk actuator that unlocked the trunk...so im assuming you're having the same prob. U can do it yourself, just order the part its like $100. What I suggest is that when you close the trunk from now on, that you dont let it slam down, but let it come down to right around where it closes and then very gently push it locked. This should prevent alot of stress on the mechanism and it should keep you from having to replace it in the future.

I'm Not following you guys..... Why would I have to replace the actuator if the trunk doesn indeed unlock it just doesn't lift any where?

not supposed to lift, just unlock. There is nothing wrong with yours.

It unlocks. It just doesn't open. Imagine unlocking your driver side door and it not opening. Of course your drivers side door is supposed to do that, but the trunk isn't. It shoud at least crack a little bit to allow me the chance to open it up. Nope it doesn't even do that. The trunk light comes on signifying that it is doing something. I guess the two springs on the side aren't strong enough to push the trunk up an inch or two to facilitate the opening of the trunk.

With my trunk I have to use my keyless entry and pull at the same time but it is because I put a spoiler on it, which will weight it down. Otherwise it is suppose to unlock and thats it, the trunk doesn't open itself!
