Legal help with Compliance.
I have just realised my car has never been complied. It has the original seat belts and rear view mirrors. The car was brought in privately by a guy who had owned it for over a year japan, there for it has a yellow plate in the engine bay, does this mean it does not have to have all the other stuff changed??
Thanks Greg.

I'm pretty sure its ok if it has registration as the rules for private imorts are quite different than for cars brought in to be sold you should be ok.
but check the regulations meggala

It should be ok... I was looking at two GTIR's that were brought into OZ as personal imports and they both had the yellow plate on them. From what i was reading and also from my enquiries with the transport dept . Like Meggala said you have to own the car over seas for at least a year or something and then you can bring it into OZ as a personal import. The car still gets complianced but i think they complianced them under different rules...
Hope thats some help. |

Thanks for the info. What a loop hole hey. And just incase you were wondering, the original seat belt are terrible!!! Very unsafe!
Thanks again. Greg.

Personal imports do not require much work at all before registration, which is why they are normally worth less than normally imported and complianced cars.
I can arrange brand new Australian spec seatbelts normally used for compliance if you do want to swap them over yourself - let me know if you want a price. |
