Re: Citroen 15-Six "Traction Avant" - 1952 - Heller - 1/8

For the moment I am also working on another small project, in which some collegues will help me get familiar with extended weathering techniques, but updates will certainly follow soon enough.

Tidyness is for people who are too lazy to search ....

Mine is also always tidy, but I was wondering how my friend Dominique is doing?

Hey pal, long time no see. How are you doing? I missed the meeting last Friday just when you turned up.
Everything is OK here, things are just too busy to be building. That's why not much seems to be happening on the forum. Are you coming to the next meeting at Sturm's place?

Re: Citroen 15-Six "Traction Avant" - 1952 - Heller - 1/8

Hello.
How about an update of this great model?
PS. I found yesterday the right colour for this motor. It's RAL 6020. I found it from here: http://www.citroen-l-attraction.de/p...ction_2012.pdf from page 58

Re: Citroen 15-Six "Traction Avant" - 1952 - Heller - 1/8

That is very useful information. I have downloaded a parts list for the 15-Six when starting the project but there was no mentioning about the color schemes. Thanks for that!!
Looking at the RAL6020, I am a bit on the lighter shade, but anyway; it is now tool late to correct that.

Next week I have a week of holidays , so I want to pick up modelling again after a long time of inactivity.
The front wings are now sprayed and varnished and I am preparing them for assembly.
So stay tuned.

Yes I know that it's too late for you to change the colour, but not for me. I'm starting to make my own 15 SIX. I've collected phots and part lists from internet, bought a spare parts catalog from France, etc. Today I bought Revell 363 paint that is just the same than RAL 6020.

OK! Please post your build here, the builds of these kits are very rare on the internet, and I would love to see someone else's approach.
Success!

According to the following website, the most similar color to the RAL 6020 Chrome Green is the Revell 32363 Dark Green satin enamel:

Yes, that is just what I bought. On top of the can is 363 SM not 32363.

Re: Citroen 15-Six "Traction Avant" - 1952 - Heller - 1/8

Finally an update on this build:

Both wings have been sprayed and mounted onto the chassis. This was quite a struggle since the mounts against the radiator sidewalls did not fit. I had to adapt them in both size and shape t be able to make the wings connect.
Then also the airfilter had his own say. I temporarily removed it and I will remount it when I am 100% sure that everything fits, including the hood lids.

The chromed parts have been de-chromed first, because I feel that the factory chrome is not really realistic and looks too "plastic". So I bleached it off the parts, and used Motip Chrome spray over a layer of ordinary Tamiya grey primer. It does not look too bad, I must say.

More updates to come.

Thanks! "Chromspray" should read "Chrome spray". I corrected the typo in the post above.

That looks just fine to me. How did you remove the factory chrome?

You just dump the part in bleach water. After a few minutes the chrome starts to fade and you clean the part with a brush to remove all residue. Very easy and safe method.

Re: Citroen 15-Six "Traction Avant" - 1952 - Heller - 1/8

After quite a while, here's a small update.

The radiator has been mounted. I first sprayed Motip Chrome on, like I said above, and it gives quite a nice effect when you have enough light on it, but all things can be done a little bit better. So I started experimenting with the C1 Models product. It is a powder (I think graphite powder?) which is to be applied over a black enamel undercoat. It immediately gives a shiny finish but when buffed with a soft cloth the effect is really nice. You end up with some kind of "black chrome", you can notice that is is still black, but with a highly gloss finish.
The big advantage against for instance Alclad is that you can buff away fingerprints: just polish lightly with a soft cloth, or maybe add a little bit of powder and buff again. No problem at all.
I did the front bumper and the headlights with this powder.

Which at the same time caused me a problem since the radiator was a completely different finish, and there was no way of dismounting it again.
So I chose to add some patina to the radiator: some oil paints diluted with a little bit of white spirit did the trick. The radiator is still to restaur, let's say

By the way: I needed to take the airfilter out again and shorten it by about 1 cm. I don't know what or where I did domething wrong, but it must have been something. Either it was not mounted correctly to the engine cradle (which I belief was done as it should have been), either the wing is not mounted straight and in the correct spot. I can't figure it out, but anyway, it is in the car again.

Here's the piccies :
