[WIP] Grumman X-29A
Guys I'm coming back to my old love: aicrafts modelling. What remains of my old airplane's stash survived for more than 20 years and 4 house's moving (plus 3 office moving), not a lot of stuff but 20-25 box in 1/72, 48, 32 with some rare pearls: better I warm up my hands a bit before try those.
The first attempt would be a connection ring with the car modelling world: a prototype in civil livery. The beast: ![]() Interiors are pretty simple and the job would be almost OOB (with a little surprise you'll see later), I'll install the seat (MB IRQ7-A) later to mask the cockpit area easily. ![]() Major parts togheter: details are engraved and very thin: my goal for this 1st attempt is keep engraving alive after putty and paint, or try to restore scribing, and do a finishing as thin I can... ![]()

Re: [WIP] Grumman X-29A
And the little surprise: I'll try to do good use of this fantastic ref. to achieve a convincing multi-media parachute brake
![]() Stay tuned!!!! The only thing I'm very worryed are those yellowed and old decals... hopefully I'll aplly correctly... I had already some troubles on cockpit: decals are thick like cardboard and drink liters of Sol before adhere a bit.....

Re: [WIP] Grumman X-29A
FINALLY!
finally found another pro-car modelor on aircraft creations too! for a while i thought this forum is one extreme CAR only site, judging from the petite entry, the J35 gripen work... so much so i kept all my aircraft WIP quietly away... good! count me in as your aircraft audience SIR! i see you modify some posable flaperons there! say, is this 1/48 or 1/72? keep posting! i'll be 2 steps behind... cheers! ![]() marc SGP

Re: [WIP] Grumman X-29A
Thanks guys!
@Marc: the kit is the Hasegawa 1/72 one: simple (just 2 sprues + trasp) but with delicate carved details. Unfortunately they leave our world just with a sandpaper pass LOL (aren't we searching a chance to finally learn how is a "scriber"? LOL). And yep I cut flaps since I seen all parked prototype with "sleeping" flaps. @Ray: shot your tank's WIP boss and we promise to NOT to be so gentle ![]() ![]() @Steve: is not the first time we're "syncro" ROFL!!! Ok, on my stuff: I skip you intermediate steps like primer (and putty, primer, putty etc. for 1000 times), white matt acryl and 1K clear (a couple of thin layers): last touch and my beast is ready for decals. I designed a couple of missed decals: kit's stuff is probably for the first o for a generic proto: I designed graphics for the prototype I seen in my refs, printed on transparent and white paper and sealed with 1K clear. The kit should have almost 20 years so decals was yellowed: I left a couple hours (may be 4...) under my UV device (bad weather here, UV stuff is the stuff I use for photo etching) and they're a bit better now: yep for sure better, cutting a bit of the base film they're usable. ![]() P.S.: new decals seems a bit "fogghy" from this pict: it's just a reflection since they're already coated with 1k glossy clear... ![]()

Re: [WIP] Grumman X-29A
Great start. This is a real favorite of mine- both the plane and the Hase kit.
![]() ![]() The kit decal shapes fit perfectly, so they will be a good pattern for your new set. The X-29 had a number of experiments hung on the airframe during their flying days. The drag chute canister is a particularly cool looking one- I'm definitely looking forward to seeing this one come along.

Re: [WIP] Grumman X-29A
Gio,
Actually, I'm currently working on a Kubelwagen before moving on to something a little closer to heart, a 25lb field gun unit from North Africa.
