That's the thing, there is no heat. It is winter afterall, and smashing knuckles in 30* weather is no fun.

why you complaining about axle stands/jack stands? there's nothing wrong with working under a car on them. i spent today under the Golf working on it with it up on stands.

i do have the advantage of having a high-lift jack, 4 axle stands and a whole load of tools to do just about every job imaginable.

I didn't say there was anything wrong with them, I just think that there wouldn't be a lot of room to wiggle a tranny in and out. Plus, that's a lot of time laying on the ground, as opposed to a lift.

Raise the back of the car up first, then jack the front. It's amazing how much room you can get under a car with a jack and a good set of stands. But yup, it does suck working on the ground on your back.

Put a big old piece of cardboard under there. I don't like creepers they just give you less room under the car. Nothin more comfortable than cardboard on cold hard concrete. Isn't that how the valvoline commercial goes?

Re: Banter Thread Part 3 (Back with a Vengeance, this time its personal)

if there's not much room then just get taller stands. i'm looking for another set so i can get the car 2 and a half foot off the ground. of course, you need a jack that'll lift that high, but they're not hard to get hold of either.

i found that there's enough room to pull a gearbox with my stands, but not so comfortably. if you were going to use a transmission saddle jack then you're best off with high lift stands to match.

as for creepers, they're a bittersweet thing. they're handy in that you can roll around on them and it's easier and more comfortable getting yourself into position, but they're a pain when it comes to having litte space and undoing tight nuts/bolt because and you give it some, you push yourself away.

when i was working, i had two lifts at my disposal (a 2-post and a flat 4-post) and they make working on cars a lot easier, but they come with a price tag, and ofter require 3-phase power. (which over here is 415v.)

Well life sucks again.

My girfriends father found out about me and beat her up, and is talking about sending her older brother to my house to beat me up. Well should say exgirlfriend.

I'd stay out of the whole situation. Maybe he found out you two were playing with the nut zapper again . A parent who is capable of beating their child for seeing someone isn't much of a parent. If my oldest daughter was seeing someone I didn't like I'd discourage the relationship as much as I could, but I'd never touch either one of them unless I had a really good reason.

No he didn't have a good reason at all. and no we never used the nut zapper. Worst part is he never took the time to get to know me. He is just an asshole alcoholic deadbeat dad type.
