Another Trac Off, ABS light question

I bought my car as a rebuildable and it was hit in the front right (02 Alero, v6, auto, 52K). Sometimes mine goes a day or two with no lights and then they come on. I have cleaned the contacts and inspected the wires and couldn't find a problem. I don't have any noises as I turn as if it were the hub itself. What am I risking by not fixing it now? BTW, the sticker on the door says that I should have 215/60R15 wheels and I have 205/55R16.
Thanks, Mike

Re: Another Trac Off, ABS light question

The most common problem is the hub/wheel bearings especially if it was invloved in an accident. You could it it scanned with an ABS capable scanner.

It sounds like the tires were replaced with the off size but that will not be much of a problem with the exception of the speedometer reading being off. Depending on the Alero model you have such as GL1 or GL2 or GLS will determine which wheel/tire size is correct. Ours which is a GL2 model came stock with Goodyear Eagle RSA "V" rated tires in P225/50R16.

Re: Another Trac Off, ABS light question

Thanks for the info. Am I risking damaging the car if I don't get it fixed ASAP?

Since the ABS light is on that means you will have no ABS controlled braking but conventional braking will work normally. There are members that went several months with the lights on until they got the funds or time to do further troubleshooting and/or replace the suspected bad parts. I wouldn't wait too long but that is up to you. Good luck.

Re: Another Trac Off, ABS light question

Had the tires changed on my wife car yesterday at Sears. Replaced all of the original tires with same size tire. Trac Light is on now. Took it back to sears. they did not know how to or where to check the sensors. wife called the oldsmobile place. They want 84 bucks to check it out. Said there may something else wrong. Funny that it just came on with the new tires. any suggestions.
