97 Mark VIII/Cobra motor ticking
I drive a 97 mark viii with the 32v DOHC. I overheated it and now have a VERY light "tick" that is random when it idles down. It does not sound rotational, more like its from the bottom end. but the actual noise is so light i can almost pinpoint it on top. I tried a stethascope on it and still couldnt find the exact spot. I was wondering if anyone else has encountered this with the cobra setup. is it a bearing? or possibly a lifter? I dont want to say its the bottom cause it is such a light noise, but i dont want to rule that out.

Re: 97 Mark VIII/Cobra motor ticking
Also, the sound seems to get quieter when the car is jacked up in the front. And i just did an oil cleanout and new oil, filter, and thermostat and the noise did not change

Re: 97 Mark VIII/Cobra motor ticking
It could be a secondary cam chain tensioner, see http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...d.php?t=954555

Since you over heated the motor, have you done a compression check yet?
