Savoia s.75 PD Primato Distanza - Italy 1939- 1/72 scale
Hi guys, just want to share with u this model I have just finished now.
It is a very rare italian airplane, coming from the golden age when we had many flight rekords all over the world (as the arrival in Chicago of our Savoia s.55x hidroplane driven by capt. Italo Balbo). This plane (s.75PD) got the distance rekord on close circuit the 30/07/1939,12935 kmts were covered on Italian skies, adding an average speed rekord at 237 km/h on 10000 kmts distance. The s.75 already got the speed world rekord on 2000 kmts carrying 10000 kgs at an average speed of 331 km/h on 10/01/1039, and the plane had an Handle Page tab on the wings. It was painted in a typical fascist livery scheme, so anti-mimetic colors as grigio perla, with fuselage lightnings and cowlings in bright blue, black identify letters (I- TALO, so even Italo balbo's plane also this),and the typical 3 green rats on fuselage sides, for lucky.. The kit is a resin transkit done by italian artigianal company, and it is based on the latest italeri's sm.82 canguro. To make this plane you have to spend a lot of money, cause the price is around 80 euros for the tk, plus 45 euros of italeri model...and it seems to be already out of production. Nearly all the not injection plastic italian planes seems to follow this destiny, I cannot say if cause there is a big request of theme, or simply cause the small manifacturers produce very few and expensive copies of theme. The resin parts are few but very well moulded in light grey color. There are no bubbles in critical position, just the fuselage needs some heating threatment for a correct fitting with the other side. Despite this, the contact point with italeri plastic wings is nearly perfect and doesnt need so much putty. The biggest problem is the lack of documentation about this airplane.Inside the box u find a very poor istruction sheet, and the camuflage scheme is not clear at all. Incredible...of such planes we have very very few images also here, probably will be a nightmare to do this outside italy. The only pictures come from a local magazine (Aerofan) specialized in our flying coffins of the past.

more
a minor part of the cockpit is provided, even if it is better to use seats and small parts from the italeri box. The main engine cowling is rebuild in resin, but seems exaclty the box one (just wider at the base, a little). The decal sheet provided in the box is printed in alps.

I used Gunze acqueous colors. They are perfect cause the finishing is semi glossy, so you dont need too much glossy varnish before decal application.
The decals done in alps are very delicate to be placed, specially the big ones, so you also have to be very carful in the correct position of all the big letters on the wings. The blue lightings were done using cutted tamiya masking tape more pics..

and the last pics of the finished model.
I gave a final coat with flat trasparent varnish. The main windows are done in clear styrene, the side ones are all done with cristal clear.

nice job. It really looks original. You spend plenty of time building this aircraft.
