Alarmed by website highlighting Honda Odyssey Transmission Problems
I am new to this forum and am excited to learn more from the other members here. I have a 2003 Honda Odyssey with the original transmission mileage reading 177,200. Has anyone made it past this in mileage and if so did they do anyhing special to squeeze out the mileage? I was recently downsized here in lovely Michigan and lost my company vehicle. My wife and I now share a very high mileage Odyssey as noted above. There is no possible way we could afford a remanufactured tranny when this one dies so I am trying to think of any way possible to buy some extra time/mileage on this minivan.
I recently became very alarmed when I read this website: http://www.squidoo.com/hondaodysseytransmissionfailure It provides evidence that the 2000-2004 Honda Odyssey has 5 times more transmission safety complaints/failures reported to the NHTSA when compared to even the Chrysler minivans! I knew the trannys were weak on the Odyssey but I had no idea how bad until I visited this website and reviewed the information. Currently I have a Magnefine in-line tranny filter installed and am running 50% Amsoil Uni ATF with 50% Honda Z-1 and this is topped off with one bottle of Lubegard Red. Is there anything else I can do to prevent the inevitable? With 177,200 miles on original tranny would it even make sense to install an aftermarket transmission cooler? Thank you for any thoughts of wisdom. Happy to be a member of this forum. |

aftermarket trans coolers is the best investment for your transmission since heat is the worst enemy for them. Get the biggest stacked plate trans oil cooler that you can fit and you will sleep better. Good luck.
