Wont shift

Hey everyone. I'm having a issue with my 1992 lincoln town car. Yesterday after i put my car in park in my driveway it wouldn't come out of park when i went to dive it later that night. The shifter will move freely out of park but will not actually go into gear. Since then i have taken apart the steering column to check if it was the shift tube but it looks to to be fine. I thought it was the shift solenoid as well but since the shifter moves freely i don't that that is the problem. I need help asap thanks
