07 Cabin Mildew/Mold problem

We have an 07 with a problem in the cabin. The company said there was a problem with the design of the system and Mold and or mildew grows inside the air system. We have changed the cabin air filter and the company want's to charge us hundreds of dollars to do a full "Cleaning" of the system and it would have to be done every year. My two year old now coughs whenever in the car and am getting angry to the point of selling the vehicle!
I am wondering if anyone else has experienced this problem so we can get a recall or something like that?
Thanks for your time.
Dan

Re: 07 Cabin Mildew/Mold problem

I also have an 07 Camry and have not noticed anything out of the ordinary with the A/C system. That said, IMHO all cars can get mold in the A/C system since there is moisture in the ducts when you shut the car and the ducts retain this moisture. Eventually mold will grow inside the ductwork. I would try spraying something like Lysol down the front cowl vents while someone else is inside the car moving the A/C and heater control switches to the various duct output selections. This will insure getting the Lysol in to all the ductwork. This is something you can do yourself. You can also go to your local auto parts store (NAPA would be my first choice for this) and ask them if they have any products designed to clean mold out of the A/C system. Read the back of the product for their instructions. If your son still has a problem after trying this yourself, then yes, maybe it's time to bring the car to the dealer for a professional cleaning.

PS: What do you mean by "the company"?

Re: 07 Cabin Mildew/Mold problem

Thanks I will try the Lysol, but if the problem is going to persist and affect my daughters health, then we may trade the vehicle for a highlander (Which we wanted to do anyway). We heard from a Toyota mechanic that it was a known problem and Toyota was being persued for a recall on it. I was just trying to see if anyone else here had the problem.

Re: 07 Cabin Mildew/Mold problem

Rodie,
My 2007 Camry had the dead rat odor problem. Under warranty the dealer changed out all needed parts to a/c system and vents to remove the smell. No problem since.
