Re: passenger brake doesn't work! Help please!
I'm back!
I just bought my CRX back... again... for the 3rd time. Has anyone ever been haunted by a car before? Anyway here are the plans: Fully stripped: If a part doesn't serve a purpose or doesn't help me go faster, it get's tossed! Fiberglass sunroof plug: I'll be making this. Why you ask? Because the sunroof adds about 40 lbs to the worst place possible... the top of the car. Carbon fiber hood: I tracked down another one (for weight reduction) 14X6 wheels: I'm working on a deal for a set of deep dish Enkei mesh wheels, Suspension: Undecided (maybe the new Tein kit for 84-87 Civics). The motor will be a 200HP turbo SOHC VTEC motor mated to a D16A1 tranny. This is for several reasons: 1) I have a turbo laying around 2) Y8 and Z6 blocks are cheap 3) Tons of aftermarket support 4) Light weight 5) Equal length axles (no torque steer) 6) I'm looking forward to the custom fabrication! More details to come after I pick up the car! ...again |

Re: passenger brake doesn't work! Help please!
Unfortunately the deal on the wheels didn't happen. It turns out they were 4x114 not 4x100 like the seller said they were. Oh well, I'll keep looking.

CRX update: I picked up the CF hood over the weekend and decided on a color to paint the car (it's a secret). I also found a set of 13X6 BBS mesh wheels at the junk yard for $60. Soon I'll be polishing the lips and repainting the mesh. I know you guys probably don't understand why I would want such small wheels but the answer is simple: Smaller rolling diameter, less unsprung weight and R-compound tire selection. This will make the car handle better, accelerate faster and the R-compound tires will help keep the car pointed where I want it to go. Remember, as Aquarius put it, I'm going for extreme speed! Oh, I also tracked down a B16. I might have to change my choice for a motor. |

Re: passenger brake doesn't work! Help please!
So should I change the name of this thread to the Old School OT/Happy Hour? Just a thought since the last mention of anything brake related was 300 posts ago

I will be using '86-'89 Teg brakes for this project. I looked into using HF aluminum brake drums but decided against them. I actually have a set of HF drums but the idea of dealing with all those little springs really turns me off to the idea. The HF aluminum drums reduce the unsprung weight, but after reading what others have to say about racing with the HF drums, it's pretty much decided that they absolutely suck on a race car. I can go into details as to why this is a bad idea if anyone is curious. I will also be disconnecting the passenger side brake. As much fun as it was at first, it has really become more of a nuisance. However, I'm going to leave the pedal in the car attached via a spring and a Walker Texas Ranger paperweight, just to give my passenger a brief sense of security. I will however install a tickle-me-Elmo-my-first-drive-along steering wheel on my quick release for additional passenger excitement. Last edited by lxndr; 05-31-2007 at 10:40 PM. |

Re: passenger brake doesn't work! Help please!
Aww screw it...
I'm just going to swap in a K20. I've been doing some research and K20's really aren't too incredibly expensive, there's just a ton of custom fabrication involved with the swap. |

Eh, more like thanks to your expertise in the automotive field. And a K20 swap would be beastly. Do it. |
