1996 Buick Park Avenue 3.8L * Non Ultra *
If anyone could help me i need the Exhaust Dimenstions for my 1996 Buick Park Avenue 3.8L * Non Ultra * I bought it for $100 and it's in great shape but the stupid owner i got it from had the bright idea to cut the Exhaust complely off so there is nothing and it sounds like a truck with straight pipes . So if anyone could help me i just need to know the Dimenstions for the Exhaust system so i can go ahead and buy the piping and the muffler and all that good stuff so it sounds good again. =)
Thanks |

We'll that might help , but what im not sure of is , when i called Advanced Auto Parts the Guy told me that i would just have to get the Intermediate Pipe and the Tail pipe and then find a muffler i liked and it would work fine. But i dunno if on that site you showed me would give me the exact dimenstions of the exhaust system. Im sorta Confused right now

You can use the Walker part numbers to order everything from Advanced if you want. It sounds like the person you talked to, did not look at the listing and he was just speculating on what you could get. BTW, Advanced is also a Walker dealer! Here is the muffler for the 1996 PA at Advanced and Here are the other Walker products that Advanced carries.

We'll Since i was really looking for more of a quick Cheap fix for the exhaust issue not go and buy the original parts rather just buy the parts that fit and that will work fine. Walker is pretty expensive considering that there muffler alone costs $ 130 for just one , and the muffler i was just going to get is $20 and get all the piping and what not. But what im not sure about is what exactly i may need because from what i was told he completly cut out the entire exhaust system but i guess i'll have to take a look and figure out what i might or do need or even bring it to a mechanic and have them throw it on the lift. ONly problem is the Power steering isn't working and i think it may be a faulty Pump or the pressure in the power steering pump isn't working properly because it's filled with fluid. But that is another issue. I will print off that parts list and bring it to a few Auto Parts stores see prices and when i get the car to my house because it's currently at a friends, i will go ahead and bring it to a mechanic and see what i will need . I think with around $500 prob lower i can have the car completly running and then throw it up for sale for a pretty good profit prob around $1500 or so because as it sites KBB- Fair condition is $ 2540. But we sha'll see. Thanks for hte help and any other information about it would be great , thank you.

What kind of exhaust did the previous owner have on there exactly?? A real hack-job?
What you could simply do is leave the cat-back, get a new tail-pipe, buy whatever muffler you want to, and then just a 90 degree bend to slap on the end so it aims out the back-end. Should run ya 150 for the whole setup. Then whatever time you want to take repairing it. I'd be weary of some after-market universal mufflers though... Dynomax, Magnaflow, and Thrust are all VERY LOUD and will become annoying at highway speed. Try to find a good, cheap, small replacement that has a good ammount of baffel and a good amount of weight to it. (The heavier the muffler, the more fiberglass padding it has inside.) Good luck.

Re: 1996 Buick Park Avenue 3.8L * Non Ultra *
We'll i honestly dont know what was on the car prior to all this, all i know is the location i live in it most probably was some type of Hack Job. ( Upper Peninsula of Michigan ) yeah ..... I havn't really gotten a chance to look under the car to see if the cat is even still there, i was giong to just go with a magnaflow kit and just buy some type of glasspack to go in place of the cat but then i found out how much it was going to cost me and desided to just hold off on that for alittle bit. Im pretty confused to what type of muffler i want, i was goign to go with the Thrush muffler because it is only $20 and for the price i guess it would be alright? i dont know any other muffler at would be good for that price so if you do please let me know. And, from the diagram that was shown earlyer in this post it seems there are alot of odds and ends that i would need to get if here is compeltly no exhaust, because from when i started it, it was louder then a truck with straigh pips and that was at idle didnt rev it or anything. So honestly i guess i would have to wait and see to realy know what i will need for this project.
If you have any other information please let me know i can use all the help i can get. |
