Re: SERIOUSLY OT: Calling all chicks! IT'S PART 6!!
I think some of its pretty cool, kids on the street have ruined the image, but there are some true pros out there, and around them is good culture too. I find that its way more of a community than drag racing or even autox. For the most part the true players are a tight group.

I like drifting cause it takes more skill than just "smash pedal, try not to hit things". I've never tried it but I feel like I could be good at it given the proper space and equipment (a RWD vehicle would probably be a good first step). I feel the same way about making beats which I dabbled in for a while in college.

An 87 Bonnie is what totaled my old old Accord (RIP 94Accord44). As it turns out, my plastic grocery getter was no match for the iron casket

Well Paul Walker died today, in a car crash.
http://www.tmz.com/2013/11/30/paul-w...#ixzz2mBxZIDgk Saw some people posting links, stating it was a hoax. Glad I held off from making insensitive jokes, before finding out it was true. |

It should almost be a requirement to undergo training before getting behind the wheel of a real sports car. These things are not camaros and mustangs.

Re: SERIOUSLY OT: Calling all chicks! IT'S PART 6!!
I'm not sure that'd even help really. I'd agree more with having far more driving schools available for people, to take their personal cars to a big track, with professional instructors.
This summer I helped a friend do some work on his Evo 8, and then was roped in to helping him datalog his car, while he was getting a remote tune from some guy in Florida. My "friend" is a young 20 something year old kid (no idea what his age is because he's a pathological liar), and has gone through more cars than he has actual experience driving. He lives on a long straight road (scientists do radar research on it because it's so unusually long and out in the country), but there's a sharp corner at one end. So after telling him to stop babying the damn car, and give the tuner the datalogs he needs, he decides to gun the car immediately after the corner, on a rainy day. The car hits a bump, shoots it in the air and we're instantaneously in the next lane...with one hand on the wheel, and the other ready to shift. Needless to say, that was one of the last times I ever got in a car with him. In fact, it pretty much fucked me up riding in the passenger seat, in any relatively fast car. I tried to help my other friend, that I'd trust with my life, datalog some Hondas, and it scared the shit out of me. If he had more training in actual driving, rather than buying, it would have been a better circumstance. |
