Which is the ultimate Buick: the 1987 Buick GNX or the 1970 Buick GSX Stage 1?
Which is the ultimate Buick: the 1987 Buick GNX or the 1970 Buick GSX Stage 1? Do you prefer an all black pillared coupe packing a 300 bhp (SAE net) turbo 3.8 V6 or a yellow or white hardtop coupe with a 360 bhp (SAE Gross) 455 V8. Or do you lust for something else?

![]() Actually, I voted for the GNX, but not for the reason most people would. I voted for it because it really stood out among the cars of the day. The GSX, while quicker than the GNX, was "lost" among the Judges, Hemicudas, etc. The GNX stood alone. Unfortunately, Buick once more lost their way and somewhat abandoned the performance car market. ![]() They don't even make a two door GS! They tease us with the Blackhawk and then deliver a minivan. Sorry for rambling, but after being the Director of the local GSCA chapter for 12 years, I get quite passionate. Jeff |

i like the GSX better myself... of course i'm a musclecar fan... however i have to agree with kratefan about the standing out of the GNX. the GNX is a beautiful car but i like that big block rumble.
and musclcarclub.... do you remember reading on here about how a guy asked you how you could think a 340 cuda wasn't a musclecar? i think i have to side with you on that but... the rest of the cars you consider or reject as musclecars don't make any sense... like mine... :\ |

'70 GSX hands down... The '87 GNX is cool, and I would take it over most cars of those years, but it's not really a muscle car. The GSX is 100% muscle. It is the best Buick ever in my oppinion...

I voted for the GNX because it's been in my time, but I don't think I can honestly pick between the two. I'd love to have either or both of them...

GNX all the way. That 455 eats on the gas. I used to be into the big v-8's and I still am. I will have a 455 Stage 1 powerd car someday. However, Once you drive a turbo buick. It's hard to go back. That and the GN/GNX's had a much better ride.

Man, tough descision! SLIGHT edge to the GSX because I like old schools. But man, I actually got to ride in a GNX when I was too dumb to know that the "black regal" my friends dad owned was something special. Actually, if I had the cheese, both would sit in my driveway...

Seems like it is 50-50 so far. Keep the votes coming.

Re: Which is the ultimate Buick: the 1987 Buick GNX or the 1970 Buick GSX Stage 1?
I voted for something else. While I love Buick performance cars I think the essence of what makes a Buick a Buick is class. I think the early 50's cars, especially the convertables have the most class. The 53 Skylark is my personal favorite. I also like the early cars with the straight 8 and the later Rivieras because they were "fast with class". All in all, Buick did no wrong until they switched to front wheel drive.

specify "lost" the GTO Judge was made in 69... and the GSX was in 70, and with the exception of the judge ( 1/4 in 13.7 according to musclecarcluc.com, and the GSX 13.8) the GSX was faster than all of the GTOs. And it was faster than alot of the cars at this time.. it was "lost" because it was a Buick... just say it it's ok |

The fact that a GNX, compared to a GSX, Stage 1, everything else being equal, might bring a little more money should be an indicator of something.

My vote is for the GSX. Stock GNX's are fast but they sound like sewing machines (OK, very fast sewing machines) when they race. I like the sound of a BBB thru a 2.5 or 3 inch exhaust.
Of course the fact that I own one doesn't mean anything. I'm also a fan of "low tech" in that I can actually name all of the parts under the hood. Brian
