Red face Short Ram Intake help...

I have a 2001 SC2 and I need some help. I purchased a SRI and while removing the stock intake, I noticed a wire screwed in to the intake AFTER the filter. I don't know what that is... and I don't know how or where to put it on my SRI... I've read several posts that the IAT sensor is located BEFORE the filter box but this is located AFTER, like directly before drivers side headlight. Can anyone tell me what to do or what this is??

Re: Short Ram Intake help...

You could drill a hole directly after the filter on you intake and find a way of putting the sensor in. When I installed mine I just let it hang down where it could get air, just make sure its out of the way of anything that turns. I never got a engine light on at all.

Re: Short Ram Intake help...

Drill a hole and put the IAT in line with the CAI

And I was agreeing.

However letting the IAT Hang and not inline with the air flowing into the engine is detrimental to performance and engine efficiency.

Re: Short Ram Intake help...

Its only about a 3 degree difference, it only measures ambient temp, I mean if it was in a high performance engine, then yeah it might make a bit of dif. I'm not disagreeing with you, that is the best place for it.

The IAT is used for air fuel ratios at all times. More during initial start up and at WOT. And it measures air inlet temperatures to the engine, not ambient temperatures. If it measures ambient temperatures you could put it on the roof.

Granted it may not make a noticeable difference in fuel mileage since there are so many variables, it should be noted its true function and effects
