One BAD ass car. And the supercharged version kicked ass in acceleration tests in this year's Motor Trend supercars shoot-out. It's a shame to hear that Shelby's new dream car is having difficulties.
For the money, it would be among my second choice in cars (my top choice, in the a little over $100,000 range, would be the Porsche 911 Turbo). But it's great-looking with a rigid chassis and a very light curb weight, especially considering all the power it's packing. |

Yeah. What a way for a legend like Carroll Shelby to go out...with a bang like the Series 1.

There's actually supposed to be a car called the Series 4000 coming out which is similar to a Cobra, but newer

Cobra 4000
Really? That's awesome! I had heard that the Series 1 was Carrol's last car.
Do you have any links to where I can hear more about it?

From inside Shelby, I can tell you there are plans for at least two new cars. They're in the design stages right now, so I have no detailed information. But I can tell you for sure the Series 1 is not Shelby's last hotrod.

Well, IMO the Series 1 is, perhaps, the biggest dissappointment of the decade. While predicted to cost just over $100k, it now bases at about $175k...and that's for the non-supercharged version. Build quality is below par even for the cottage industry.
On the plus side, it does look great.

Yep, the Series 4000 is coming out, but I'm not sure when. I heard of the plans from my Shelby club in San Diego, but I haven't seen a picture yet...
I'll let you know if I do. Ferrari |

Personally, I don't like the looks of the series 1 nearly as much as the old cobras, I'm hoping this new car all you guys speak of is a tad bit more beautiful.

Series 1 prices
Over $175k? Not any more. The base has been lowered to $142 and the car and options are all available for online purchase. Take a look at the ShelbyAmerican.com website and click OPTIONS in the SERIES1 Section for more information.
The supercharger option comes online in June. It's in the proving stage right now. So far Carroll is the only one with the supercharger aside from the test car. Also, look for the Series 1 to be featured in the remake of Roller Ball in theaters this summer! -Cobraman100 |

I like the Series 1. The 450 hp supercharged version is really fast I think the body looks really awesome. THe carbon fibre is everywhere, and I would love to drive one. Quality is low because its a really small company, but it is getting better (or so C&D says). Anyway, the car is cool, and I would buy one, if only becuase I would never see anyone else with my car.

having been in one and driven one i'm not sure they are really worth the big $.. maybe with the s/c it could be closer.. but the dash is pretty weak and the multi thousand dollar skunk stripes aren't so appealing. they dyno at just what Carol says they should.. and the $27,000 s/c kit seems kinda steep.. but in perspective.. it's cheaper than a s/c kit for a civic or mustang compared to the cost of the car. it's SOO KILLER how the car was put to gether... aluminum corrigated sheets glued to gether.. thats it.. and it's INSANELY stiff. |

where I'd put my 100K+
nobody buys a shelby series 1 b/c its anything other than a muscle car. this is the muscle car for me.... chevy big block... 6.3L 535 hp... 2300 lbs... it flies... and for 140 grand... almost a bargain... 0-60 in 3.5 with the standard 345hp corvette motor. with the big motor... shoot... its over :-D
