Dash lights, DIC random dim out
I just purchased a 2001 Park Ave Base. The DIC, A/C and Radio lights will randomly dim so low that they cant be seen during the day and I have no cluster lights at all. I have checked the fuses and ensured that the dimmer is all the way up (just before clicking on the interior lights which do come on) and have found nothing.

Re: Dash lights, DIC random dim out
Could have a bad ambient light sensor, the sensor makes the car think it is night time, this turns the headlights on, and dims your interior dash, radio, and HVAC....it there anything on top of the dash that may be blocking the ambient light sensor?

Re: Dash lights, DIC random dim out
No, there is nothing on the dash. I cleaned the sensors with some alchohol this weekend but it didnt make any changes. I did stumble across that when the car is in park the headlights are on when i moved the twilight slide all the way to the left to shut that off when the headlights went out the DIC came back on. Since that cant be turned off while driving i dont know whether to suspect that module or the light sensor. At this point I am going to guess the gauge lights are a resistor issue and not have anything to do with the DIC issue.
Thoughts? |

Re: Dash lights, DIC random dim out
All the twilight sentinal does, is determine how long your lights stay on, after you shut the car off.....
Like I said, it sounds like you have a bad light sensor..... You never stated how the cluster lights are at night? Are they bright enough to see? Do they dim when you move the dimmer switch? If they are lit at night and the dimmer switch works at night, then you have a light sensor problem....in daylight, if the light sensor signals it is dark, your radio, I/P will be so dim, you just can't see them..... |

Re: Dash lights, DIC random dim out
Gm part # 914032 correct? It seem fairly easy to get to on the Park Ave.
I have no cluster lights at night at all. When I move the dimmer switch it effects neither the DIC, Radio etc or the cluster lights. Last edited by cptjacksprw; 11-20-2014 at 01:29 PM. Reason: Correction |
