here's some news guys...tell me what you think...this is a guy from www.japanesemotorsports.com saying this:

We don't actually do the fitting of the engines that we sell, but I beleive the RB25DET requires the A31 Cefiro crossmember. And also the mechanical fan will have to go in favour of twin thermo fans. But that is the limit of my knowledge of the matter.

Regards,
Ben

Cool

Hi everyone,

I am completing the installation of the RB20DET in the R33. Why the RB20DET? Cost and the fact that the car came with only a RB20E. With regard potential, the RB25DET has more potentialk than the RB20DET. With the stock turbo, it is unlikely that you will be able to get past 260hp keeping in mind that the RB25DET starts at 250hp (stock). You must also know that the RB25DET is an extreme gas guzzler, so be warned. Additionally, due to the age of the RB20DET, the large number of R32 GTSt s provide a large number of spare parts....yes, cheap parts.

Please note the following however. The RB20DET also came as a GTS4 which carried some of its modules in the rear of the car. Depending on what you are trying to accomplish, you may need the harness and modules that lead to the rear of the car. The GTS4 RB20DET also carries a different sump to the 2WD model. I have had the trouble changing the 4WD to a 2WD so AVOID the 4WD model.

In Australia, John Penlington of Unique Auto Sports, www.nismo.com.au has been nothing short of amazing. He has been albe to supply anything I needed for my transfer. Don't start without knowing him.

Anyway, if you need anymore info from someone who has spent forever on a RB swap, just holler.

Skyline240?

Where did you get your engine and tranny? I am also a proud owner of a 90 and have been doing a crazy amount of research for this swap.

Thanks,

I've found that www.venus-auto.com has some of the best prices their clips aren't as complete as some others but seem to have all of the goodies . By the way has anyone had any dealings with venus?

I have had a look at the Venus website and let me just say from experience, you get exactly what you pay for. US$1,000 for a front cut is very cheap. It means that the engine is not in really good shape and may need some work or has done some really high miles and is approaching an overhaul. Mine had 60,000kms on the clock and the car was driven by a friend in Japan before it was cut for shipping. I had a technician inspect the engine searching for coked oil and metal filings. The engine passed with flying colours and cost me the equivalent of US$1,250 without the transmission.

Tuning is a costly undertaking and you would be well guided to spend wisely, not cheaply.:alien:

Yesterday the car was started. Let's just say GRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!! I should be getting it this week and hopefully by the weekend it will be on the track for time trials.

tuning is never cheap I should be th first to know as for a living I work on 10 diferent cars each totaling $750,000+ each but I digress. Anyone looking to buy a motor/clip should become well aquainted with the specimine in question for example venus has right now an r-33 clip with an rb25det they only showed one picture I have already asked for more pictures (which I promptlu recieved) plus I asked about the condition of certain items in order to determine true value and total milage (which is approximately 40k) sorry to hear about the bum pan doctor_yaj let us know how it turns out

well i guess its true you do get what you pay for...my engine came with 56,000 Miles, not KM...and i know it was runing because i checked all the fluids and everything seemed very fresh...

so far venus-auto is doing great for me...when i got it i noticed the fan was kinda torn and so i called them and they sent me a new one right away and took a week to get it....i really dont even know if i'm gonna use it though cus i'm gonna go with a electric one...

i also got a oil pan from venus today by UPS...so i guess they do take care of you...so far that is...they seem to be pretty prompt and care about your satisfaction...

its true that you get what you pay for but sometimes when you're in college and dont have much, you go for the best thing you can for the money...so far i'm happy with what i got...

good to see some prompt service, just had a thought (as I was under my car tinkering) with the oil pan being damaged is the oil pick-up ok is it bent, is the screen torn does the fitting into the pump seem to be tight? I'd hate to see something bad happen so even with the complications would you buy from them again?

i really actually haven't taken my old oil pan out yet and checked it out...i will thought before i put the engine in...

well, i never told any of you guys this but before i ordered my engine, i asked venus if there was any front end damage at all and they told me non of them do...so i was very pissed when i got my engine with the sides kinda screwed...errrrr

well, for the money, i guess...hmm, it was a good deal i guess...now if the damm thing doesn't start up next spring i'm gonna regret it all...if i had to buy again, or recommend a friend, i guess...sure, give them a try...cus it was a good deal, and they have decent service

re - RB engine swap

I am doing one but my car is already fitted with an RB30E which was only released in Australia and some in New Zealand.
To many people that don't know about the VL Commodore it is surprising to them that General motors fitted a Nissan engine into it,I don't know if the 3 litre Nissan Patrols were released in America around 10 - 15 years ago but they had the same RB30 block in them only in carby form.
I am building a hybrid RB30DE using the head, pistons (same bore size as an RB30) and engine management from an RB25DE powered R33 Skyline which will have the power potential of an RB25DET but heaps more bottom end grunt.
While all the RB series engines are very strong the smaller capacity ones aren't as strong as the bigger engines, for example, the RB25 engine I cannibalised had smaller rods and smaller diameter crankshaft journals than the RB30 engine, the RB20 engine has even smaller components again.
So if anyone wants to build a strong, powerful motor and can get a Nissan Rb30 out of any car even a Patrol,I'd grab it.
The only thing you'd need is a different sump but if you buy an RB25 to use as parts you can use its sump after the louvres on the shallow end are removed as they hit the RB30 crankshaft counterweights, then again it will have to be modified to fit into a Zed anyway
