Question bout 77-90 Caprices

I have a 77 amd I am look for some new doors and seats. If I were to find a parts car in the year range of 77-90 would the doors fit on my 77? Say I found an 85 would those 4 doors fit on my 77?

No, the body style changed in 1980, the only doors that would fit yours are '77-'79. The cars are largely the same, but the '80-'90 is a little more rounded, with more hood 'slope', and less abrupt angles than the '77-'79 ones.

Interior parts are interchangeable, as are windshields and most windows, however the body panels are not.

Yes, the seats should fit.

Yes, any GM B- C- or D-body from the era will interchange the seats. This includes the Cadillac DeVille and Fleetwood.

Oh and 77CapriceClassic - Good luck and Godspeed!

I think (if you want new) this catalog may help: http://www.classicindustries.com they have a huge Impala/Full Size downloadable catalog... if they don't have the door skins, try: http://www.buy-oem-parts.com they have 'em for '85 Caprice's

Re: Question bout 77-90 Caprices

Update:

Went looking through some junkyards just to see what they had and I found a 79 Impala and those doors looked a lot better shape than mine do. I saw the car on top of 3 or 4 other cars (they were stacked high) so I climbed up to inspect it and the drivers window is shattered but I could take the glass out of my old one for that and swap it in right? And I currently have electric doors and this one is a manual crank would it be possible to convert it to an electric window? What all needs to be done for this to become possible? Any suggestions, thanks in advance

Yes it can be done. I'm not sure what all needs to be done other than swapping out the motor and all electrical components for the door and any other parts associated with the power window setup. I swapped a power setup to a crank style door for my '76 Monte Carlo about 20 years ago. I ended up taking it to a bodyshop and was charged $25 back then for the labor, that was for the one door I had done and I had all the parts.
One other thing. Since you have the doors off the car and are in the process of replacing them, it would be a good time to check the hinges, especially the bushings and replace them before you install the other doors on the vehicle. It is easier to replace them now than having to take the door back off to do it in the near future if needed. I'm not sure how they will be on your 4 door vehicle as this is primarily a problem with 2 door cars, (which is pretty much all I owned back then.)The weight of the door causes the bushings, which are made of a soft metal, go bad and get sloppy. I ended up replacing many of the bushings and pins on my '70s to early '80s GM vehicles. Your vehicle may show signs of bushing failure given it' age and use over all of those years.

Re: Question bout 77-90 Caprices

Does any one know where I can get a driver door and a passenger door for a 1980 2-door caprice classic that is not dented or rusted?
