Need more speed...trying to take off govenor...any suggestions??
Got a 2000 Ford Ranger Sport 4.0 litre V-6. Im tired of not being able to go past 98 mph. Does anyone know how to cancel out the govenor or the rev limiter?? Do I need to buy a chip or computer from like Performance Products or can I do something else?? Please help...need more speed. Should have bought a sports car, right??

while it is possible with a fairly easy wiring change, unless you are racing at a track and have the horsepower to go faster, I wouldnt recommend it. The limiter was not installed because ford thought you shouldnt go faster then 97 mph (or their other cars would too), but because of vibration issues on the driveline that could litterally destroy your driveline if you drive faster than that for prolonged periods. In short the truck was not designed to go faster than that, even though it has the power to.
Think carefully before you do this mod. If you decide to there are plenty of places that tell you how, just do the research. |
