oh, that's ok then. i'll buy a combination set which included metric and imperial sockets.

i just don't want to buy a combination set and find that my metric sockets are redundant. harmony has been restored. now looking for a 3/4" female-1/2"male adaptor.

I think I use more metric than standard sockets on my car...But I don't do a whole lot beyond the basics..

Re: Banter Thread Part 3 (Back with a Vengeance, this time its personal)

i wanted to get a 665mm ratchet, with a 1" drive, but they don't have a 1" female-1/2"male adaptor, so i have to get a ratchet with a 3/4" drive which is only 500mm long.

oh well, life goes on. i think they use detachable ratchet head, so i might be able to turn a longer handle in my machine class then see if i can have it coated so it doesn't rust. then i could have like a 680 or 700mm handle!

Re: Banter Thread Part 3 (Back with a Vengeance, this time its personal)

I alot of times use metric in place of a standard bolt. Like 14MM on the bellhousing when they are 9/16's and 5/16's in place of 8MM cause they are the same size. Most american cars nowadays use alot of metric sizes as alot of the parts they use to assemble the cars come from sources outside the US.

Moving the 2.500" studs from the rear to the front and putting the 3.250" ARP's in the rear.

Re: Banter Thread Part 3 (Back with a Vengeance, this time its personal)

well, i want to study at Wyotech, and i've been told that you need to have a set of tools that's up to the job, but i want a set for personal jobs anyway. i figure i might as well get a combination set, then if i come accross either metric or imperial i've got the socket and can't go wrong.

i'm currently looking for sets, one metric and one imperial. (it may be four sets, 2 small and 2 large, one metric small one imperial small etc..) i think i'll get 3/8" drive for the small ones an 1/2" drive for the larger ones. i may also get some 1/4" sets for smaller bolts, but i might just get some combination wrenches for that instead. then i have everything covered.

i'm getting a 1/2" drive torque wrench (30-160lb/ft although i may change that to 50-250 or even a 60-300lb/ft if i think i'll need it)

a 3/4" drive heavy-duty ratchet 500mm long (i'll turn a 680mm handle)

a 3/4" female to 1/2" male adaptor. and 1/2" female to 3/8" male adaptor.

a 1/2" to 1/2" universal joint.

a 1/2" 6, 10 & 20in extension

a 1/4" ratchet

a 3/8" ratchet

and finally a spark plug socket.

that should be it, if i can get the money. (apparently my dad siad he'd buy me a set, but i think i'll be paying at least half if i buy this lot.)

Mostly because I don't have the space in the garage for a compressor.

air tools? come on, man. put some effort it. besides, impact wrenches eventually thread bolts. a hand torque wrench is safer.

you probably use trolleys to shift gearboxes too...

Every bolt seems to be the one size I cannot find easily. I have lost soooo friggin' many 10mm sockets it isn't even close to funny.
