Re: Grand Am Off Topic Thread

Its a lot of HP for a GA.

Its funny because thiers 4 cyl cars , mostly imports, that have that much hp out of the factory.

It realy does take some getting used to.
After driving the SE then driving the GT or any other auto, it's like where's the beef !?

TG its almost Friday...

Re: Grand Am Off Topic Thread

I always felt that the G/A SE's had more power then the GT's or at least the ones with the 3.4's. The 2.4's or 2.2 I forget what i had drove.... felt noisey and weak IMO. I find it tough going from my G6 to my fathers Vue... his wimpy 180 hp ... vs my 250hp . If i could put my foot through the floor to go faster i would!

Re: Grand Am Off Topic Thread

gotta get a fog light replaced, so i'll go to the pontiac dealer and see if they still have that WRX there (same place i test drove a gtp)... My parents are really pressing me to start looking for a new car, because mine is so old and has so many miles. I wont ever get rid of the GA, but I need a more reliable car for the future, and WRX's are reliable, decent gas mileage when you don't boost (AWD drains gas a bit but...), safer in WINTER!!!!

Oh, and manual is more fun. And the car is faster. So why not get it? I want a V8 like a GTO, but I just wouldn't be able to afford the insurance, upkeep, and especially gas! I'd have to mod it right away and I know getting a s/c for an already 400 hp V8 would be stupid.

Re: Grand Am Off Topic Thread

This is how it starts Vipey.... you go to the dealer for one part and then the next thing you know you have a new (or newer) car. That's what happened for me! I went in for a simple headlight ring and about a month later i had the G6... but that's cause i was dragging them along to get my deal! hahahah Anyways I would always get attacked when i brought the GT to the dealer... the sales people always where ready to take it off my hands... even when it was only a year old. Towards the end I was getting calls and notices in the mail asking if i wanted to trade in my GT. CRAZY! I know that it's not easy to find a good GT and it's really hard to find them in Silver like mine was(took me over a year to find mine). Heres a thought Vipey, Since your g/a is silver.... put a GT body kit, taillights and everything exterior on your g/a and bring it to the dealer... bet you they jump on you for the car. It's a thought... an expensive one at that.

I need to go to a junkyard and engine swap a waaayyy newer engine first 180k doesn't make dealers very happy

But yeah, considering a foxbody stang or a WRX for my next car... both are reliable and fast!!

Even with an engine swap.... they still see the 180K miles.... that's still 180K on the tranny and the rest of the car. I like the WRX's, just gotta becareful with them or at least out here cause it will get stolen. Now I know i'm gonna sound very stupid... what is a "foxbody" mustang? What year does that pretain too? This is the first time i've ever heard that before.

I've always found the Mini Coopers pretty cool. I would never buy one, but they are neat little cars. The best are the ones in the movie Italian Job! I think that's the favorite part of the move... Beside Charlize Theron...

Re: Grand Am Off Topic Thread

Foxbodies are the 87-93 stangs i believe. 94 still had the 5.0 engine but it had the neater body style. 5.0 stangs can get a lot of kick

Re: Grand Am Off Topic Thread

So yeah my dad suggested even taking out a loan and buying a new car within the next couple months... i told him I don't want to buy a new car this soon because I want to A) think about what I want and B) not go into debt immediately LOL

Re: Grand Am Off Topic Thread

Ahh.... I get ya now. I liked those years stangs... but more of the GT's I hate that base crappy stang.... they just didn't look right as a base model.

Smart move though thinking about what you want to get and trying to prevent from going into debt. It's always tempting knowing that you'll have the help to get a loan to get into a new car.... BUT that loan comes back to haunt you later.... Plus insurance on a new car while young (under 25)... SUCKS!

Re: Grand Am Off Topic Thread

IMO NEVER BUY A NEW CAR!!
I mean new like this years.
For one reason parts are not always available without special order and a long wait. Plus any new modles dont have the bugs realy worked out, leading you to need parts which arent available.....

This has been one looooonnnngggg Weeek!
I blew out my lower back yesturday morning
I hadnt even done anything, just bent over to pick up a 4L60E/700R and "POP" !! I laid on the shop floor for at least 20 minutes before I was able to get up on my own.
Havnt been able to stand up straight all day ....

I need a new back!
ANyone seen any on fleabay for sale??!!

Re: Grand Am Off Topic Thread

I felt like this week went by fast... Today dragged for awhile!
That sucks about your back though. I know your pain all to well! If you find an extra one on fleabay let me know I could use one too... I think with a pair of knees, maybe i can get combined shipping.

I'm gonna go search for my midnight snack now... I be hungry!

There is no plan that you cna come up with other then parentals or some savings that you do not touch... otherwise... there is no way around if things go bad, other then sell and take a loss. I made the mistake of buying my G/A after I got laid off from work, and was just running out of money to pay bills.... but what better time to buy a car! I sold my other g/a for $400.00 ( then bought it back 1 year later for $400.00) yes yes i know i''m crazy. But the car is worth about $1000.00 I don't think i would get that but its worth that!

the best advise I can give you is keep in mind a monthly payment, Car insurance and the "just in case" For me i thought i had it figured out... well i was mistaken big time... I bought the car... when my first payment came through no big deal, but then my insurance doubled which hurt really badly... then I was plagued with some really bad luck of accidents after accidents, where as prior to that i was only in 2 ( not my fault, no damage done in 4 years) I began an average of 1.5 accidents a year with the new car...Not good some of you remember the horrors I went through with accidents.... That's my advice I can give ya... see that i been there done that. ALso try not to buy new like XI said!
