Re: Making of Le Mans Thoroughbred - '64 Ferrari 250 GTO

Again,
Stunning work Alex........ and to answer the question (Hope Alex does not mind) Waxing over cured decals is a great way to seal them and buff up the shine. How aggressive you can wax them depends on the decal itself. If its a nice cartograph decal or tamiya decal you can be pretty aggressive with the polishing. I have built lots of nascars with heavy duty decals printed by cartograph and you can get them to shine very well. IF they are a slixx or alps decal I dont reccomend waxing those. The color will come off using wax. Hope this helps...

I remove wax with a t-shirt - just thoroughly wipe it off and you should be fine. Decal setting solution should help to fuse decals with the paint, and like Dave said, if it is a quality decal, nothign will happen to it. Always test on a scrap decal first though.

what's the best way to clean polish and wax out of the panel lines? i've had a few models with the tell-tale white residue that i've been unable to remove from scribed panel lines (doors, etc.) i usually use Maguire's polish and wax, only because i've got a sh!teload of it around because i used it on my car.

The best way would be not to put wax inside panel line in the first place! I actually wash my bodies after polishing with soap and toothbrush to get rid of polish residue. Toothpicks is what I use to get the wax out, but I rarely put wax inside panel lines.... just use it sparingly, and you should be fine.

First of all, I have to say that this is an awesome build. The detailing and the paintjob are just stunning, and that is why I think it's a bit of a shame that the seats are not very convincing. The fabric is just out of scale. But, it's always easy to be negative about something without handing out a solution, so this is what I would have done: instead of using the adhesive cloth, spray the seats with gloss blue (or any other color, it doesn't really matter) and while the paint is still wet, generously sprinkle embossing powder over the seats before the paint is dry. Tap off excess powder and there you are. Just paint and drybrush over the powder layer.

This is the result that my friend Huudo achieved and explained in his thread about the Peugeot 307 WRC:

And this is the embossing powder he used (and that we all bought in the meantime):

There is also a website about this product: http://www.rangerink.com/product_sfdetail.html

Maybe you can still change your seats, and if not, maybe it's a tip for a next build?

In any case, keep up thye great work!

Re: Making of Le Mans Thoroughbred - '64 Ferrari 250 GTO

Time for another update folks!?Front subframe was mated to the engine, which was in its turn mater to radiator and oil cooler. Added all little details - oil filter decal, belt, stabilizers, plumbing, shocks, exhaust manifolds, shifter, etc...?Dashboard was painted "crackled black", and detailed. I also added circuit board made from scratch + some wires.?Mr. Hiro was kind wnough to send me another front wheel set so I col build a spare wheel. Only 750 Yen! ?I also fitted brake rotos with calipers, drilled them for brake lines, assembled sock absorbers.

Gas and oil tanks were carefully cleaned and sanded, drilled for outles, and fitted with scratchbuilt filters, lines, and fittings. Screws used on fittings are from old wrist watch! Lots of goodies there....?Rear suspension with differential, leaf springs, and Watts linkage...?And finally, powertrain assembled!

Then all this was put together in a chassis....

Wheels are on...checking the stance...looking good. Interior is next!

Close to perfection! Those added fuel line and dashboard details look really great.

What colour did you use for the interior? (Aluminium coloured parts)
