You did check 2 posts up right? The link with all the F40 pics in it.

Mike.

Re: In Progress: Tamiya Ferrari F40

Nope, sorry, not an update yet. Soon though.

americanmuscleman- I should be updating this one in another month or so. After the 7 is done, this is the next 'get it off the bench' project. Warmer weather is returning, and I (and my airbrush) can hardly wait!

The F40 has to be the very best online documented car I've ever seen. There's almost nothing you can't find pics of on it on the net. There are so many online galleries of it that I simply can't remember them all. Just look and you will find. (Shame scaleracecars is down- that's a good one.)

If you've read through the thread, you've probably noticed that I have the S27 set for the F40.

It's sh*t- literaly not worth the etching chemicals used to make it. I will probably use 5 parts from it. Among them will not be, for instance, the intercooler grilles.

Note S27's magnificent fit, and the way the PE dramaticly improves the plastic kit part. I'm not even going to bother to check how the rear grille fits. My pic above doesn't adequately show, but the front and rear grilles are horribly rendered. Notice in part 26 just how little you can see through it? The mesh holes are practically nonexistant. It's almost not a mesh at all- I've seen expresso filters with bigger holes. I have a sheet of K&S mesh that I'm going to make the front and rear grilles from.

What this kit needs, a photoetch set cannot provide. But as soon as I get off my @ss and continue work on it, I'll be happy to show you what I think it does need.

As for what's next, I can't really say. I have an Enzo, but I haven't been able to get excited about doing it yet. Whatever I do next, it's not going to have any CF on it. There are lots of Ferraris being built lately- maybe it's time for a 911....

Wow, thats some horrific S27 work. I expected their product to be par with some of their other stuff but that is just disastrous. I'm thankful this fell into the hands of a master modeler like yourself.

I think this is the mesh for the oil radiator, not for the intercooler. Intercooler mesh is #10 and it fits perfectly.

Re: In Progress: Tamiya Ferrari F40

Yeah, I'd though of that and tried it too. It didn't fit any better. Sure the dimensions were different, but neither was close enough to be usable. One set is grossly oversized in one dimension, the other is grossly oversized in two.
