Really enjoy the progress so far. As for the window, may I suggest vacuum-formed clear plastic using the stock window as a template? That should give you a realistic thickness.

Re: ferrari 458 italia

hi, thanks for the suggestion on the windows. appreciate much. more update today.

trace the outer curve of the jamb with masking tape and transfer it to the door and draw it out on the door with marker pen and create the area which have to fill with putty.

using the piping bag method that i previously used, pipe out the polyster putty to the marked area.

shape the outer curve of the door by using a used stirer from McDonald's. the result as shown.

thats all for now, need to wait the putty fully cure only can proceed to sanding and more putty work to fill those uneven part...
thanks for viewing and all comment are welcome.

Re: ferrari 458 italia

hello, here are some updates after a short break.

here are the doors after cleaned up.

test fited to the body. looks good so far.

white putty applied to fill up those uneven area and sanded smooth, rescribed the window seal, then primed with grey primer.

test fit again.

primed the door panel.

door hinges time... sand flat on 1 side of 2 plastic pipe, i used Evergreen 2.4mm diameter with inner diameter of 0.93mm.

cut a space on 1 of the pipe after measuring the angle so that can secure the copper rod.

bend a S shape with copper rod, Lionroar 1mm diameter copper rod.

the other pipe glued to the door after some measurment.

glue the pipe with the space to the body, then insert the S shape rod n secure it, ofcourse with some measurment aswell. how? not sure how to explain, just test fit and test fit, then do a marking with a marker pen on where the hinge should be glue to.

slide in the door, and tada... consider done.

test fit together with door panel on, windscreen on, dash board and seats on.

thats all for now, still need some touch up on the door panel detail, hinge consider ok for 2nd time, better and open smoother compare with my previous attemp on the GTR project.

all comment are welcome, thanks for your time guys.

Re: ferrari 458 italia

hello, some minor update here,

rear bumper, plastic plate added to support the PE muffler grill for easy glue on later.

test fit the PE.

plastic plate added to support the rear grill aswell. here is the question, this is the 1st time i have to glue a PE grill directly on the face of the body instead of glue it from the inside like other common grill. which way should i do? glue it 1st, then mask the PE and paint the body, remove the mask from the PE and mask the body then paint the PE? or do all the paintjob and finishing then only stick on the PE last? to me, i think the 2nd option carry higher risk of damaging the paint job if somthing bad happen like too much CA glue or accidentally chip the paint when glue the PE.

test fit the PE.

scribe some panel line on the door to bring out more detail.

Dig the hole of the lock on the door. PE rivet will be add on after paint to bring out the detail.

thats all for now, hope fellow modeller here can guide me on the PE grill. thanks for your time. all comment are welcome.

Re: ferrari 458 italia

Very nice work on the doors, and that's a great tip for installing the photo etch parts, coming along very nicely!

Re: ferrari 458 italia

Personally Id attach the rear mesh after youve painted the body & just be super careful, also dont attach the lights the CA glue will fog them. If you did the opposite Id be worried removing the mash off the attached mesh would cause them to detach or ruin their apperance... Good luck!

Re: ferrari 458 italia

I would ONLY glue the photo etch AFTER the paint is finished and with your added plastic tabs, just CA glue in tiny drops or a thin line along the edge furthest from body will hold those small P E parts and won't fog the paint, OR you could try 5 minute epoxy, it wipes off without damaging anything when it's still wet, so it can squeeze out around the P E part and you can quickly wipe it off the face while pressing the part in. You will have to prop the car in a position so as to let the P E part stay in place while the epoxy set up.

Of course you already know all this, I'm just rambling.

Re: ferrari 458 italia

hello, some minor update here,

body and door are primed with white primer.

test fit it, still ok.

further detailling on the passenger seat door panel.
try to scratch the handle with a plastic stripe, i use 0.75mm thickness, then thin down abit to slightly thicker then 0.5mm.

slightly heat the plastic with lighter and bend it to the shape. this is actually the 4th handle, the previous 3 all lighted up due to too close to the flame.

glued it to the door and done. thats more like it.

thats all for now. all comments are welcome. thanks for your time guys.
