Re: Porsche 917K Le Mans 1971

Inspiring build mate, weathering is very realistic. Hard to believe these work of arts start from a humble plastic kit. Fantastic!

Very nice build Eric.....and tricky too: ....but the weathering looks good!
The damaged fibre glass is a very nice feature!

Re: Porsche 917K Le Mans 1971

Eric, what a fantastic job! The weathering is great. I'll have to use that trick of blowing the dirty thinner drops with the airbrush. I've got some pics of the #23 car that show dirt just like that and I've been wondering how to replicate it.

Tell me though, how did you get that nice black edge on the windshield? I've been thinking about how to do that and can't come up with anything. Also, the nose of the car has this nice kind of thin black sooty look over the white paint. Is that just really thinned-down black paint airbrushed over the white?

In a way, I'm sorry to see this build end; I've really looked forward to your well-documented build reports. What's next on the project list? Another Porsche?

Really fabulous job!

Thank you all for kind words.

To get the black around the windshield I always use a permanent black marker (Edding). Just put against the windowsurround and gently pull it alongside and there you have it. It sure beats masking

Yes, I used thinned down black paint. I used Zero Paints Jet Black. To get the hue of dust on the white paint spray from a distance. You have to play arround to get a good result before you go life on the car.

Re: Porsche 917K Le Mans 1971

The Porsche 917K won silver on last week saturday IPMS/ESM 2012. I'm very pleased with the result. In the picture you can see how I showed the model on the display together with the scratchbuild spaceframe.

Congratulations work like this deserves. For my part, detail is soiled and chipped it over. Not many people who dare to do that in a model of competition and remain as well.
Greetings.
Saul.
