Thanks for correcting!

I only remembered the photo in the GT Endurance 1995 from Monza as LOJ had had the off's and 04R had the scratches and was missing the left rear tire. But the better explanation of 04R's destiny is there written in the section for Jarama:

One was lost, though, as Lindsay Owen-Jones had a major crash on the downhill section, losing control at over 150 km/h then hitting barrier and rolling the car over.
Does anyone have any aftermath photos?

I kind of new that it had to be from tests as it doesn't match any race photos. Thanks for confirmation!

Re: GTR Articles Thread

You can always offer a correction - that's how we learn things.

Looking back at more detailed records, I do see that #04R completed 64 laps at Monza before retiring due to "accident". It's also on the "Did not start" list for the Jarama race, with no recorded time in Practice. Perhaps the accident occurred very early on, maybe due to cold tires?

I seem to recall you stating that the current whereabouts of #04R would be revealed in time. I have to ask - is it time yet?

Re: GTR Articles Thread

I,m allways here to help out

Lyndsey,s accident was in free practice on the Thursday before the race.

04R,s Engine and gearbox was put in the rear of 08R, As 08R was built as a spare rolling chassis just before Lyndsey purchased it. Erik you have something that will confirm this .

There are no crash pics about, not that I know of.

As for your last question Erik, I shall answer that in a PM soon.

Perhaps John Brooks has photos of #04Rs damage from Jarama?

I know two people who could ask him - one that posts here in fact.

Erik, Le Man, Doc:

The case #04R/08R got some new things to me. I have asked couple of times this earlier. Fantastic to get some new very detailed information of that case.
Why #04R was written off, why 08R replaced it, what happended after all. What parts #08R got from the #04R and so on.
Now this is much much much more clear to me.

Re: GTR Articles Thread

I promised these to Sami, but thought they me be interesting for others on here to view. Only one problem, they are not complete articles, some pages are missing . Sorry.

.............

Having spent some time trying to improve the quality of my scans, hopefully I have made some more improvement? The first two pages I,ve left as scanned, if anybody has time and they are willing to stich the pic together and improve its quality, please do. Many thanks in advance.

I might know a guy who could put some time into that.

I've got them lined up next to each other in Photoshop now, but the really difficult part is going to be the Michelin Man logo down on the nose and that little winglet thing. I'll see what I can do with it - perhaps borrowing a section from an unrelated photo to make it all work.

Le Man; thanks!

Very interesting interwiev of J.J!
There allmoust were said how he get Paul Lazante's team, but still no.
It seemed like it, just the first laps he liked the GTR. And it really showed.

To be honest, as I typically am, while the new scan has more clarity in the details, the process used for the older one somehow produced richer and more saturated colors. This isn't entirely true based on just looking at each of those images that you shared, but I took the "OLD" and in Photoshop I increased it's dimensions using the Image Size function to match those of your "NEW" one. Then I used Photoshop's "Auto Contrast" feature, which magically removes a lot of the grey haze from the original scan. To make it a fair fight, I also did the "Auto Contrast" to the "NEW" scan as well. Then I cropped the "NEW" one to match the height of the "OLD" and placed them together in the same image ("OLD" on top) which you can see here.

Frankly while the details of the "NEW" one are a little crisper like the outline of the individual sponsor decals (perhaps even over-sharpened), I find the "OLD" one to be the more appealing image after my minor contrast change. It just 'pops' on the screen so much better. If you can bring the two together at the same time - better clarity and vibrant colors - then you'll truly have a winner.

I know you aren't working from the greatest of sources there, but hopefully you'll consider my comments to be productive ones.

Re: GTR Articles Thread

Many thanks Erik, your comments are most appreciated.

In my "NEW" image I used Auto levels, then Sharpened, plus Sharpen edges. This was OK, but the sponsors logo,s did not look right, so in Noise I used despeckle, then Dust/Scratches. Which made the clarity of the logo,s in my eye, much better.

I,m with you on the colour view point, Its a case of getting the cars body colour and the grass to look natural, but also to "pop" of the screen better. I was probably being lazy, by just using Auto levels.

Perhaps we should have a photoshop thread on here

Re: GTR Articles Thread

I've always felt that Photoshop's plain "Sharpen" option is too harsh on most images, and never use it. "Unsharp Mask is a favorite, and you have to adjust the sliders just right for the desired effect. My usual settings are in the 400-450% range, then just 0.2 or 0.3 on the radius, and then a slight compensation of 1-5 on the threshold to get the intended results.

I don't like "Auto Levels" on some images as it can really skew the hue of certain colors. Intially, I always go with "Auto Contrast" first, then will give "Auto Levels" a try if I think it will help. If not, then I'll just play with the R-G-B levels manually, using Image -> Adjust -> Levels (or Ctrl-L). You can do quite a bit with an image using those sliders individually. Then another favorite is "Hue/Saturation" for those pics that need just a bit more tweaking.

Re: GTR Articles Thread

Yep, Photoshoping is sometimes prity hard work. Every image is different.
It depends so much the an orginal image, how good it its when you start fixing it.

I have shoted aircrafts many years and couple of years ago started to shot cars also. Allways same format:
- add some exprosure
- Add some shadow/light about 10-15%
- Curves up
- Contrast and lighting up
- Color balance
- Sharpen
- Undersharp mask with 0,2 radius first time 500 full size image
- then resize the image exp.1024 size and then again undersharp mask 120
- that's it quite often.

But every image is different and to get best result, sometimes you have to spent really much time to working it out a good way.

New Picture of #01R at 1995 24 Heures du Mans

I don't know if anyone else has seen this yet, but I just found this new picture off the Iding Power website, showing F1 GTR #01R outside its' pit garage at the 1995 24 Hours of Le Mans, probably being final-prepped before its' history-making race.

I hope you enjoy.

PS - Ignore the User Name and the Location, it's a bad joke; if only I could change it to XP1LM......
